PREVENT VEHICLE THEFT and BREAK-INS

Please do not make yourself a target for a vehicle break-ins or theft. A large number stolen vehicles and automotive break-ins are due to vehicles being left unlocked or the keys left inside the vehicle. Here are some tips to help prevent this:

ALWAYS lock car doors and windows, even when at home or making a quick stop.

NEVER leave your car running unattended.

Take your valuables with you inside, do not leave a purse, phone wallet, electronics or anything else of value in plain sight.

If valuables are left in a vehicle, hide them out of plain sight, use the trunk to secure these items.

PARK SMART by choosing well lit areas, utilize a garage when available

ADD EXTRA PROTECTIONS by adding motion lights to the area you park, installing cameras or a tracking system to the vehicle.

National Police Week is a time to honor and remember the officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. This year hits harder than those of the past, as CHO Henry Franklin will be honored this year in Washington, D.C. National Police Week is a solemn remembrance but also a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day.

National Police Week was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy and continues to serve as a time for agencies nationwide to reflect upon and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community. Since 1786, more than 24,000 officers have lost their lives in the line of duty.

During this week, we also take time to thank the dedicated men and women of Sikeston DPS who serve our community each and every day. In recognition of National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day on Friday, May 15, 2026, Officers will wear mourning bands over their badges through this week, May 10-17, 2026.

Thank you to David Little for the memorial photo of CHO Franklin.
