I would like to say congratulations to Brain Self continuing his seat at city council.

Thank you to all who supported me during this election. It means, so much. I plan to keep this platform open for updates as our year progresses, and our council attempts to heal our city. Lets all be educated and be apart of our decision making processes.

I speak from my heart and I will always try to advocate for the unheard.

City council meeting June 1st!

I hope everyone had a great and safe extended weekend!

I wanted to post further information about what our Ingram Interchange entails. I referred to this in a prior post. I wrote to our city manager, and this is how he explained it to me.

“This is a project to extend Ingram South (where it curves and becomes George E Day) past Wing Elementary School to a new interchange (overpass and on/off ramps) with Highway 60, connecting to new outer roads on the south side of Highway 60. Those outer roads would connect the businesses over by TAG Truck Center, and the industrial park property (south of SEMO Electric) to the interchange. “

“The city has been seeking state and federal funds for the project, and it will most likely be done in stages as we are able to obtain funding assistance for different parts of it”

If anyone has any further questions, feel free to post them here or email our city manager!

This pandemic has been hard. There is a new normal I don’t believe I’ll ever get used to. As a business owner, I have definitely suffered. For example, today was my 3rd real appointment with real people since early March. Our savings and cutting costs have been our only true saving grace, personally.

I’m concerned for our future as a city. I want to know, how have you as citizens, business owners, paid employees , etc. been MOST impacted during this time? What is your biggest worry? What do you believe our city can do to help alleviate some of these fears?

I’m concerned for our businesses with overhead. I’m concerned for our factory workers. I’m concerned for our newly established small businesses and if they will survive, along with many other worries.

Tell me.

Let’s chat economic development. What would you like to see brought to Sikeston? Our Sikeston 60 West TIF district was approved by our council in 2014 and has brough us Watami, Malco Sikeston Cinema, and The Hampton Inn.

These businesses have created an amazing amount revenue for not only Sikeston but also benefits New Madrid County.

We need development. We have a Three Rivers College, Lowe’s, and Walmart that bring in significant revenues for New Madrid County. We are also in the middle of two major intersecting highways! What we develop NOW is how we can start our rise out of poverty for our future. Our town deserves it.

What would you like to see brought to Sikeston?

Let’s talk about the future of our city in dollars.

This is more of an informational post, so we can ALL be aware of where our money is spent or projected to be spent.

Our elected city officials plan for future investments in Sikeston. This is named The Capital Improvement Plan, and is an outline and scoring system of projects that are deemed valuable to the city and its residents from 2020-2024. It’s not a budget, but a tool to determine what gets funded. This is also rediscussed yearly and what can’t be afforded in the current year, will likely be deferred to a future year.

Here is what our council has put the most monetary value as well as scoring value based off of the City of Sikeston’s website (www.sikeston.org) CIP (Capital Improvement Plan).

Top 5 projects in order of importance from CIP2020-2024:

1. DPW- street drainage program- $200,000.
2. DPW- Ingram interchange- $7.5 million
3. DPW- sidewalk improvement-$50,000
4. DPW-Airport fuel system- $50,000
5. DPW - Ditch maintenance- $50,000

Top 5 most expensive projects from CIP2020-2024

1. DPW- Ingram interchange- 7.5 million
2. Salcedo Trail Project- $300,000.
3. DPW- street drainage program- $200,000
4. Sedan patrol vehicles (4)- $200,000
5. New dump truck - $162,000

Our total revenues from 2016-projected 2020 range from 13.5 million to 15.3 million. This is how our revenues are distributed per our city’s website, projected for 2020:

General City Government- $2.6 million
Administrative Services Dept.- $912,000.
Public Safety - $5.7 million
Public Safety (Fire)- $1.6 million
Public Works- $1 million

Know what we’re spending and where we’re spending it. Stay informed and come to City Council meetings! I will be attaching links below in the comments of PDFs for ease of access.

As always,
Stay kind and strive for greatness.

Mallory Whiffen.
