First time last night 4 of us have been in the council chamber for a meeting in 2 1/2 years! We’ve been taking care of business all along but it’s much nicer to do it in-person together!

From our City Manager:

The National Guard will be siting a communications outpost in the parking lot of Hilltop Park beginning this afternoon at approximately 3 p.m. until further notice. Please be assured that the National Guard is only here to use the Hilltop area as a communications resource, to facilitate their broader mission across Southern California. This is a tactical presence, not a responsive one.

To accommodate the National Guard, Dawson Avenue will be closed to traffic. We ask everyone who is not a Hilltop resident to please avoid the area. Thank you for your understanding.

Our Signal Hill Police Department, Public Works Department and entire city staff performed a Herculean task yesterday and were able to protect our city and businesses from any type of wide-spread looting. Out of the businesses that were targeted, only 2 sustained any losses. Our Police Department was proactive in turning away cars of people coming to our city to loot and our Public Works Department responded as well to board up and fortify businesses. So much gratitude to the dedication of our City staff.
