To help the many dogs in its care find new homes soon, the shelter is waiving its $75 dog adoption fee effective today through Nov. 14.

With surrenders outpacing adoptions, the Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center will be offering free dog adoptions through Friday, Nov. 14, to help free up space at the shelter.

As it faces capacity issues, the Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center typically turns to other shelters and rescue organizations to help but those organizations are facing the same problem. To help the many dogs in its care find new homes soon, the shelter is waiving its $75 dog adoption fee effective today through Nov. 14. Sterilization, the first set of vaccinations, a complete physical exam, a City pet license, and a microchip implant are all included at no charge.

“With many families facing rising costs, shelters are seeing an increase in dogs being surrendered,” Animal Control Supervisor Arleen Garcia says. “We encourage owners facing these tough choices to try to re-home their pets independently when possible to reduce stress on animal shelters.”

The animal shelter also welcomes volunteers who would like to help foster dogs, as that can help free up space in the short term.

The Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. To contact the shelter, call (520) 458-4151.
