🌧️ FLOOD WATCH | Hudspeth County

A Flood Watch has been issued for Hudspeth County from Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning.

Tropical moisture is expected to bring widespread showers and thunderstorms, with repeated rounds of heavy rain possible. Some areas could receive up to 4 inches. With soils already saturated from last week’s rainfall, the risk for flash flooding is elevated.

Please stay weather aware, especially around low-water crossings and flood-prone areas. Never drive through flooded roadways.

Be mindful, not fearful. Stay prepared and stay safe, Hudspeth County.

🙏 THANK YOU | West Texas Flood Response

A big thank you to the Texas Task Force Water Squads and all of the local and state partners who responded to Hudspeth County today following flash flooding in our area.

We are grateful for the extra hands, resources and support when our communities need them most.

Please continue to be mindful of road conditions and never attempt to cross flooded roadways. When in doubt, turn around!

Thank you to everyone out there working to keep West Texas safe. ❤️

🚨 Deployment Update | West Texas Flood Response 🚨

Our TX-TF Water Squads remain in place and ready to respond as they continue monitoring conditions and assisting residents across parts of West Texas. Earlier today, team members were actively assisting residents in Hudspeth County, where flash flooding impacted the area.

While much of Texas is expected to remain dry, portions of the Panhandle, South Plains, and far West Texas may continue to see additional rainfall through this evening. Our personnel remain mission-ready and prepared to respond should conditions worsen.

⚠️ Safety Reminder Never drive, walk, or swim through floodwaters. Just a small amount of moving water can be powerful enough to sweep away people and vehicles. Your safety is the top priority! ; ; ; ;

DID YOU KNOW? | President Truman in Sierra Blanca, TX

Did you know that 78 years ago today President Harry S. Truman stopped in Sierra Blanca?

On September 25, 1948, Truman’s campaign train rolled into town during his famous whistle-stop tour. He spoke from the back of the train to a crowd reportedly numbering around 3,000 people, some arriving on horseback!

This great photo shows Truman shaking hands with local cowboy Charles Norton from the train.

And the best part? The Truman Presidential Library still has the original recording of his Sierra Blanca speech, and you can see a large original image of this photograph at the Railroad Depot Museum most Wednesday's 10am-1pm. https://www.trumanlibrary.gov/soundrecording-records/sr65-21-2-rear-platform-remarks

Pretty neat piece of history for our little corner of West Texas. ❤️🇺🇸
