Sierra Blanca is a census-designated place (CDP) in and the county seat of Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The town is located northeast from the Mexican border and is located within the Mountain Time Zone. ific railroads. Hudspeth was formed in 1917 from El Paso. Sierra Blanca was named the county seat, and has the only adobe courthouse in the state of Texas. The town continues to accommodate travelers along interstate 10 between Van Horn and El Paso which is the main route that connects Texas from west to east. The town was named for the nearby Sierra Blanca Mountains, which was named for the white poppies which grew on it. As of the 2010 census, the population was 553, 172 households, and 126 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 116.0 people per square mile (50.6/km²). There were 227 housing units at an average density of 55.8 per square mile (21.5/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 83.91% White, 3.44% Native American, 3.25% Black, 1.45% Asian, 7.96% from other races, and 3.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 72.61% of the population. There were 172 households out of which 40.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.72% were married couples living together, 13.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.31. In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.8% under the age of 18, 11.8% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34.3 years. For every 100 females there were 96.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.1 males.
