💙 September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month

Sometimes, the most important thing you can do is simply check in.

Take a moment to reach out to your friends, family members, coworkers, neighbors, or anyone in your life who may be struggling. Pay attention if you notice warning signs such as:

• Withdrawing from friends, family, or activities they normally enjoy
• Significant changes in mood or behavior
• Talking about feeling hopeless, helpless, or like a burden
• Increased use of alcohol or drugs
• Giving away possessions or saying goodbye in an unusual way
• Changes in sleeping or eating habits
• Talking about death or su***de

But remember, not everyone who is struggling will show obvious warning signs. Some people become very good at hiding what they are going through.

You don’t need to have the perfect words or know exactly what to say. A simple “How are you really doing?” or “I’m here if you need someone to talk to” can make a difference.

Remembering September 11, 2001

This morning, members of the Shrewsbury community gathered together to remember and honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the victims, honor the courage and sacrifice of our first responders, and recognize the families and communities whose lives were forever changed.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today as we paused to reflect, remember, and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We also thank Shrewsbury Media Connection for capturing today’s ceremony and helping preserve this important moment of remembrance.

September 11, 2001 — 25 Years

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the countless families, friends, first responders, military members, and communities forever changed by that day.

We remember the courage of the first responders who ran toward danger to help others. We remember the sacrifices made in the days, weeks, and years that followed. And we remember the spirit of unity that brought Americans together.

Twenty-five years later, their stories and sacrifices remain a part of our history.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

We will be holding a joint Police and Fire remembrance ceremony in front of the PD at 10am.

Another month of serving the Shrewsbury community! Here’s a look at some of the numbers from August:

🚔 4,644 Total Incidents
👮 24 Total Arrests
📄 18 Criminal Summons
📞 874 911 Calls

🚗 Traffic Stops
Our officers conducted 626 traffic stops during August. Here’s how those stops broke down:

• 74 Civil fines issued
• 276 Written warnings
• 15 Criminal citations issued
• 259 Educational verbal warnings

That means the majority of traffic stops resulted in a warning or simply an opportunity for officers to educate motorists and address the issue.

🔐 Vehicle & Property Breaks
August also saw 8 vehicle breaks and 6 residential or commercial breaks.

A simple reminder: Lock it when you leave it🔒

Always lock your vehicle doors, even if you’re only going to be away for a few minutes, and avoid leaving valuables or other items of interest in plain sight. The same goes for your home or business. Taking a few extra seconds to secure your property can make a big difference.

🚨🎒 SHREWSBURY — SCHOOL STARTS TOMORROW! 🎒🚨

The first day of school is here! That means our roads, school zones, sidewalks, and bus stops will be a little busier than usual. 🚸🚌

As everyone gets back into the school-year routine, here are a few reminders:

🚶‍♂️ Watch for walkers — kids may be crossing streets or walking along the road.

🚴‍♀️ Look out for bikes — give cyclists plenty of room and be especially careful when turning.

🚌 Be alert around bus stops — children may be waiting near the roadway and can sometimes move unexpectedly.

🚗 Slow down in school zones — expect increased traffic and give yourself plenty of time.

↩️ Take it easy around corners and intersections — don’t speed or rush because you’re running late. A few extra minutes can make a big difference.

⏰ Give yourself extra time — plan for heavier traffic, school buses, drop-offs, and pedestrians.

📵 Put the phone down and stay focused — keep your eyes on the road.

🔐 And one more reminder — think before you post those first-day-of-school pictures. 📸

Those traditional first-day photos are great memories, but they can also unintentionally share a lot of information about your child. Before posting, take a quick look at the background and consider what information the photo may reveal, including:

• 👧 Your child’s name and age — especially on first-day signs or chalkboards
• 🏫 School names, logos, or uniforms
• 📚 Grade, teacher, or classroom information
• 🏠 House numbers, street signs, or other identifying locations
• 🚌 Bus numbers, routes, schedules, or routines
• 🚘 License plates visible in the background

A quick check before hitting “Post” can help protect your child’s privacy and limit how much personal information is shared publicly.

This evening was our intern Ronan Johnson’s last day. Ronan is a senior at Fitchburg State University in their criminal justice program. He will be graduating in December and will be attending the Fitchburg State University Academy in May. He resides in Rutland and works at Lilac Hedge Farm in his spare time.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family, friends, and colleagues of Worcester Police Officer Kurt Solomon during this incredibly difficult time.

We stand with the men and women of the Worcester Police Department and all those who have been impacted by this heartbreaking loss.

Please keep Officer Solomon’s loved ones, his WPD family, and all those affected in your thoughts as they face this devastating tragedy.

We’re proud to share this recent episode of Hearts of Heroes, which highlights a water rescue our department was involved in last year.

While it’s always meaningful to see an incident like this revisited, the real story is the teamwork that took place that day. Multiple first responder agencies and personnel came together, each doing their part, with one shared goal: bringing someone home safely.

We’re grateful to every police officer, firefighter, dispatcher, EMS personnel, and other first responder who worked together that day. It was truly a team effort, and we’re thankful for everyone who played a role in saving a life.

We’re honored to serve alongside such dedicated professionals and proud of the teamwork that our communities can count on when it matters most.
