Today is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day!
Did you know?
🔴 Women make up over half of all people living with HIV worldwide — and Black women and other women of color are impacted the most.
🔴 Women are less likely to be screened for HIV, partly due to the perception that they aren’t at risk.
🔴 The most common way women contract HIV? S*x with a male partner who has the virus.

Here’s the good news: PrEP is for women, too!
Getting tested early means earlier prevention, earlier care, and a powerful step toward equity in HIV treatment.

Knowledge is power. Prevention is possible.

✔️ Eat a nutritious breakfast
✔️ Bring required materials
✔️ Be on campus and in your testing location on time

🚫 STOP THE STIGMA 🚫

STIs are incredibly common, but shame, judgment, and misinformation keep people from getting tested and treated.

Here’s the truth:
• Getting an STI doesn’t define you.
• Getting tested is routine self-care.
• Seeking treatment protects you and your sexual partners.

Stigma thrives in silence. Health thrives in honesty. 💬

Let’s create a culture where conversations about sexual health are normal, supportive, and judgment-free ... because everyone deserves care without shame. 💚

National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, recognized since 1999, serves as a reminder that despite advances made in HIV prevention and care, Black communities remain disproportionately impacted by HIV. Why? Fear of stigma/discrimination and socioeconomic factors like housing instability, lower education level, and living in locations with fewer options for care prohibit people from seeking testing and treatment.

This NBHAAD, Louisiana Health Hub recognizes our community partners and local organizations that work so hard to address racial disparities in HIV care. We commit to continue doing all we can to improve circumstances in communities across Louisiana because everyone deserves access to the care they need.
