The wait is over, Southern Hills!

Today was the soft opening of the long-awaited Southern Hills Pool, and it was great to see swimmers back in the water!

But we’re just getting started… Tomorrow is the GRAND OPENING!

Join us Sunday, September 6, at 2 p.m. as we officially celebrate the completion and reopening of Southern Hills Pool!

🎶 Live music by 3Feet
🌭 Free hot dogs for the first 500 people
🍧 Free snow cones for the first 500 people
🏊 And, of course, plenty of time to enjoy the pool!

Southern Hills Pool will remain open every Saturday and Sunday in September from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

We’ve heard the question for months: “When is Southern Hills Pool going to open?”

The answer is NOW!

The Stars & Stripes Border Classic kicked off with a great night of high school football at Independence Stadium as Calvary Baptist Academy picked up the win over crosstown opponent Huntington.

Join SPAR Athletics for the 2026 Football Jamboree on September 5, featuring a full day of youth football action with teams from across our community taking the field.

Great news for people needing some extra help during these extremely hot temperatures.

‼️ PLEASE SHARE‼️

Effective immediately through October 31, Southwestern Electric Power Company - SWEPCO is offering the following temporary support for existing residential customers:

✅Pausing required deposits
✅Waiving late payment fees for customers who contact SWEPCO for assistance
✅Expanding eligibility for the Average Monthly Payment (AMP) program to provide more predictable monthly bills

Customers may also qualify for payment arrangements, Neighbor-to-Neighbor grants, the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and other available resources.

We encourage customers who are concerned about paying their bill to contact SWEPCO as soon as possible. Customers should call 888-216-3523 to discuss payment and assistance options.

We're looking for businesses, churches, organizations, clubs, and community groups to decorate a trunk and help make Halloween unforgettable for local families. The more trunks we have, the more smiles we'll see!

KTBS recently stopped by one of our Senior Chair Aerobics classes to see our seniors in action with Tomeka Thomas-Anderson!

Reporter Madelyn Dupont got an up-close look at how these classes are helping seniors stay active, improve flexibility and cardiovascular health, and, just as importantly, make new friends and have a little fun along the way.

FREE After School Program is Back!

Looking for a safe, fun, and engaging place for your child after school? SPAR Recreation FREE After School Program provides a welcoming environment where children can learn, play, and grow.

Program includes:
• Homework assistance
• Safe, structured activities
• Healthy snacks
• Recreational games
• Reading and enrichment opportunities

Program Dates: August 10, 2026 – May 19, 2027
Hours: Monday–Friday | 3:00–6:00 p.m.
Ages: 5–12 and Teens

The program is available at participating SPAR Community Centers throughout Shreveport.
