Important Change to Louisiana Vehicle Inspection Sticker Requirements

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office would like to inform motorists about an important change to Louisiana law regarding vehicle inspection stickers.

During the 2026 Regular Legislative Session, House Bill 1085 was passed by the Louisiana Legislature and signed into law by Governor Jeff Landry. Starting January 1, 2027, personal, non-commercial vehicles registered in Louisiana will no longer be required to display a vehicle inspection sticker.

Furthermore, from June 30, 2026, to January 1, 2027, law enforcement officers are prohibited from issuing citations solely for failing to display or produce a certificate of inspection. As a result, the Louisiana State Police have immediately stopped enforcing inspection sticker violations.

As with any change in Louisiana law, the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office is committed to educating motorists, answering questions, and helping the public understand how these changes will affect them during the transition period.

Motorists are reminded that all other traffic laws and vehicle equipment requirements remain in effect. Drivers should continue to ensure that their vehicles are safe, roadworthy, and properly maintained before traveling on Louisiana roadways.

The safety of our citizens remains our top priority. We encourage all motorists to stay informed and continue practicing safe driving habits as Louisiana transitions to these new requirements.

Please complete the application and turn it in by June 18th. We look forward to seeing you
