Today, we convened at the Capitol and heard Governor Jeff Landry’s State of the State Address. Now, it’s time to get to work.

I’ve prefiled several key bills focused on protecting our communities, expanding emplyment opportunities for youth, protecting tenants, and strengthening our gaming industry.

Here are the bills I am proposing:

✅ HB 5: Harsher penalties for those who promote human trafficking.
✅ HB 6: Makes it a crime for landlords to steal tenants' utility payments.
✅ HB 389: Extends and strengthens the Youth Jobs Tax Credit — investing in our future workforce.
✅ HB 542: Updates rules around promotional play in gaming and allows fair tax deductions for operators.

Your voice matters. Do you have any thoughts on these proposed bills or any other proposed legislation?
Drop a comment below or share this post to let me know.

Let’s build a safer, fairer, and more prosperous Louisiana — together.

It’s ok to disagree, it’s not ok to be disrespectful. Vote your conscience on tomorrow and “it will be what it will be.” I’m standing by the unanimous vote of the legislature when we passed this and standing with the teachers union in supporting Amendment 2. I encourage everyone to get the facts and do what you feel is the best thing to do. Maturing in this space, is understanding we wont agree 100% of the time. ✊🏾 🗳️

Thank you to Speaker DeVillier for appointing me to these important legislative committees. Before any bill can become a law it must be vetted through respective legislative committees of jurisdiction in both the House and the Senate.

Transportation and healthcare play an extremely critical role in our regional economic viability. I look forward to working diligently for the residents of District-2 and the citizens of Louisiana to fund state infrastructure priorities, decrease social determinants of health, strengthen our medical institutions, invest in frontline medical personnel, and increase the quality of life for city, towns, and parishes through our state. I consider it an honor to serve.

Enjoyed the opportunity to sit down and discuss recent hiring activity at the Amazon distribution facility in Shreveport with KTBS 3 News’s Rick Rowe. I look forward to the day when the facility is operating at maximum capacity. I also look forward to continuing the dialogue about helping our local entrepreneurs seek business opportunities with Amazon. I believe it is important that we leverage opportunities to help build our local entrepreneurial ecosystem.

SHREVEPORT, La. - Very soon probably, by the end of this year, hundreds of people will be walking into the massive Amazon Fulfillment Center in Shreveport. In fact, some people

Democrats and the Legislative Black Caucus are proud that we emerged from this special session with a 2nd Minority Congressional District. The new map complies with the Voting Rights Act and ensures black voters in Louisiana have our fair share of representation in congress. Thanks to all memebrs of the Louisiana House Democratic Caucus, Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus (LLBC), Gov Jeff Landry, NAACP Legal Defense, The United States Department of Justice, and the entire legislature for this historic moment.

Incoming House Democratic Chairman, Rep. Matthew Willard Q&A on Democrats outlook and priorities. Thankful and looking forward to his leadership in the upcoming term.

In December, Louisiana House Democrats tapped State Rep. Matthew Willard to chair their caucus this year.

Excited to see Amazon begin its initial hiring for the Shreveport Robotics facility.

At the current moment the bulk of the hiring is for their highly specialized Reliability & Maintenance Engineering (RME) team members.

For those who feel they may not have the requisite experience, you can enroll in an 8-10 week course to help skill up for the open positions at https://unmudl.com
