Today the Governor Vetoed HB 85, which was a bill that I filed to protect our law enforcement officers while they perform their dangerous duties. This bill requested by the Fraternal Order of Police, supported by the Louisiana Sheriffs Association and Chiefs of Police passed overwhelmingly in the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Violent Crime in Louisiana is growing at an alarming rate endangering each of us and our property. I am disappointed Governer Edwards chose to use the arguments of such groups as the ACLU as his basis for the veto. Those arguments were made and soundly rejected by the Legislature.

I will refile the bill next year and continue to do everything within my power to fight crime, protect our citizens, and support our police.
