Shortly before 5:30 this morning, crews from Caddo Parish Fire District 5 and neighboring departments responded to a structure fire in the 5000 block of Dixie Garden Drive. Upon the arrival of the first unit, the fire had already self-ventilated through the roof. No injuries were reported, and the cause is still under investigation by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's office. Many thanks to Caddo Parish Fire District #6, the crew of Shreveport Fire Department Engine 3, and Signal 51 Group for their assistance.

Engine 552 stretching its legs today during our annual pump testing. Once a year, we are required to put our fire engines through a battery of tests to ensure that each pump still performs to the operational standards set forth by NFPA.

It is with great excitement that we announce that the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) fire insurance rating for Caddo Parish Fire District 5 has been improved to a Class 3! Previously, the district held a Class 4 rating. Thanks to the hard work of the men and women employed by Fire District 5 and to the generous support from our citizens, we were able to obtain this improved rating.

PIAL evaluates fire departments across the state periodically to determine their fire insurance rating classification, with a Class 1 being the highest rating obtainable and a Class 10 begin the lowest.

Residents of Fire District 5 are encouraged to contact their homeowners insurance company to make sure that this improved fire rating is applied.

We would like to thank DeSoto Parish Fire District #9 for allowing us to come down and drill with them today in their new burn building/training tower. It's always good when mutual aid departments can come together and train as one.

Jerry Hope was a great friend to CFD5 and the many other area public safety agencies to which he volunteered his time to serve. His passion for the fire service and its members was very evident every time you would see him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hope family, as well as his Signal 51, CFD6, and SFD families. He will be greatly missed.
