Today, we say congratulations and farewell to Laurie as she begins her retirement.

Laurie has been a part of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office since 2012 and has been my Administrative Assistant since I took office in 2019. For all of those years, she has given our office countless hours of hard work, dedication, and support.

Laurie, thank you for everything you have done for me, our office, and the citizens of Lincoln County. Your hard work and dedication have meant a lot, and you will truly be missed around here.

Enjoy your retirement, Laurie. You’ve earned it! We wish you nothing but the best in this next chapter.

September 11, 2001 — We Will Never Forget

Today marks 25 years since our country was changed forever.

For those of us who wear a badge, September 11th carries a meaning that is difficult to put into words.

On that morning, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and ordinary Americans faced something unimaginable. First responders ran toward the danger, knowing there were people who needed them. Many of them would never make it home.

2,977 people lost their lives that day. Behind every one of those numbers was a husband or wife, a mother or father, a son or daughter, a brother or sister, a friend, and a life that mattered.

As Sheriff, I think about that sacrifice often.

Every time one of our deputies puts on that uniform and pins on that badge, there is a responsibility that comes with it. We don’t know what the next call will bring. We don’t know who will need us. But we know that when that call comes, we go.

That is what those who gave everything on September 11th did.

They went.

They went into the buildings.
They went toward the smoke.
They went toward the people who needed help.
And they gave everything they had.

Today, I ask our community to remember not only the lives that were lost, but also the courage that was shown.

Remember the families who waited for loved ones who never came home.

Remember the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Remember those who survived but carried the scars of that day for the rest of their lives.

And remember the unity our country found in the days that followed.

As Sheriff of Lincoln County, I am proud of the men and women who serve beside me. We may serve a small community, but the oath we take is no smaller. We stand ready to protect our neighbors, help those in need, and answer the call—whatever that call may be.

Twenty-five years later, their sacrifice still matters. Their courage still inspires us. Their names still deserve to be remembered.

May we never become so accustomed to September 11th that we forget what it cost.

May we always remember.
May we always honor.
May we always be willing to answer the call.

Important Office Remodeling Update

We’re excited to be making improvements to our office, including remodeling our bathrooms! This project is expected to take approximately two months.
While we work to improve our facility, we ask for your patience and understanding as there may be dust, noise, construction activity, and temporary changes to our normal operations.
📅 September 17th — Half-Day Closure
Our first scheduled construction closure will be Thursday, September 17th.
Closed: 8:30 AM–1:00 PM
Open: 1:00 PM–5:00 PM
Additional half-day closures may be necessary throughout the remodeling process. Construction schedules can change, and we will provide notice of closures and schedule changes as soon as we receive confirmation.
🖐️ Fingerprinting Services Temporarily Unavailable
Due to the remodeling project, fingerprinting services will be unavailable during the first month.
We understand this may be an inconvenience and appreciate your patience while this work is completed. As soon as fingerprinting services are available again, we will notify everyone.
We appreciate everyone's understanding that these temporary changes are necessary to safely complete the improvements to our facility. We will do our best to keep disruptions to a minimum and provide updates whenever possible.

The Blaine County Sheriff has lifted the Level 2 Set Statuses for the SouthCarey and EastCarey evacuation zones in the Wildhorse Fire, effective 8/27/2026. Both zones will go to Level 1 READY STATUS. Please maintain situational awareness should conditions change. If you feel you are in danger, do not wait for an evacuation order.

🔥 Wild Horse Fire Update – Richfield Area

We have spoken directly with the Fire Incident Commander regarding the current status of the Wild Horse Fire and its potential impact on the Richfield area.

At this time, Richfield is no longer being maintained in a READY status, and according to the Incident Commander, there is currently no identified threat to the Richfield area from the fire.

Fire personnel will continue to monitor the fire and conditions closely. As with any active wildfire, conditions can change, and we will provide updates if the situation changes or additional precautions become necessary.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience as fire crews continue their work.

Please continue to use caution in and around the fire area and follow directions from fire personnel and law enforcement.

🔥 Wild Horse Fire Update

The Wild Horse Fire remains active, and fire personnel will continue conducting backburning operations as conditions allow. Residents may notice increased smoke in the area as these operations continue.

Fire officials have also advised that additional resources have been called in to assist with firefighting efforts.

We are keeping everyone at a READY status due to expected increased winds this afternoon, which could cause the fire to become more active or change direction.

Please remain alert, stay informed, and be prepared to take action if conditions change. Use extra caution when traveling in the area and give firefighters and emergency personnel plenty of room to work.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as information becomes available.

Wildhorse Fire Evacuation Update 9:00 PM 8/26/2026: The Blaine County Sheriff has lifted the Level 3-GO NOW EVACUATION STATUS for the "SouthCarey Zone" from Preacher Bridge on the East side of HWY 26 to Red Hawk Lane to a LEVEL 2-BE SET Status overnight.

Additionally, the LEVEL 1 - READY STATUS for "EastCarey Zone" has been raised to LEVEL 2 - BE SET Status overnight.

Both zones should maintain situational awareness and be prepared to leave on a moment's notice should conditions change. Follow us on social media for up-to-date fire evacuation updates.

Fire evacuation zones will be evaluated tomorrow based on fire activity. Stay safe.
