In the spirit of Liberty Day, the Town of Shorter invites everyone to join us in celebrating as well as honoring the contributions of a Shorter patriot and one of the original council members of the Town of Shorter. Even before our incorporation as a town in 1984, Mrs. Dicks has provided loyal and dedicated service that has helped pave the way for our beautiful town to become what it is today. Mrs. Dicks, along with her fellow members of Bradford Chapel, has graciously provided charitable works for the students of Deborah Cannon Wolfe Elementary and the Shorter After School Program. She has also participated in the Shorter Heritage Museum's West Macon Legacy Series in which she tells the amazing story of how she and fellow citizens banded together and fought to establish Shorter, Alabama as a recognized municipality in the State of Alabama.

On behalf of Mayor Powell and the Town Council, we would like to thank one of our founding mothers, Mrs. Jimmie Dicks, for a lifetime of commitment and service to the Town of Shorter and the West Macon Community!

On behalf of Mayor Powell and the Council Members of the Town of Shorter, we would like everyone to join us in celebrating the legacy of Dr. Charles Smith Sr. and the Lean, Mean, Green Machine, also known as the D.C. Wolfe Marching Bandits. In 1976, the Marching Bandits won the Alabama and South Alabama Bicentennial Band Competition in Prattville, Alabama.
Dr. Smith and the Marching Bandits were honored by former Governor of Alabama George Wallace with a proclamation and a citation of honor as an honorary Lt. Colonel Aide de Camp in the Alabama State Militia, one of the State of Alabama's highest civilian honors. They also earned the honor of representing the State of Alabama in the National Bicentennial Parade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Smith and the Deborah Cannon Wolfe Marching Bandits symbolize the resilience and excellence of our beautiful community.πŸ’šπŸ€πŸ’›
