The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, working with MNL, will be conducting a prescribed burn at Gideon Glen, 5620 County Rd 19 in Shorewood, between now and June 1st. The burn will be approximately 2 acres of prairie.

Prescribed burns are conducted to control invasive species, cycle nutrients, promote native vegetation and enhance wildlife habitat. Typically burns are done every 3-5 years in the spring or fall, when dormant vegetation serves to carry fire.

Fire crews will coordinate with local fire departments and follow strict safety protocols related to staffing equipment, and weather conditions to ensure the safety of both crews and the public.
