Sharing an important message from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

SCAM ALERT: A wave of phone scams are circulating once again. The recent scams involve calls and voicemails warning of “traffic citations requiring your prompt attention” and includes a fraudulent link in an attempt to get individuals to pay for the fake violation.

Remember, the Wisconsin DMV or the Wisconsin State Patrol will NEVER text, e-mail, or call saying you owe money. If you receive one of these messages:

❌DO NOT click any links or provide personal information.

✅Delete the message and report as “spam” on your phone.

Our vehicles can become easy targets if we accidentally leave the door unlocked, keys in the cup holder, or valuables sitting in plain sight.

Preventing auto theft is a true partnership between our department and the community we serve. Taking just a few seconds to double-check that your car is locked, your windows are up, your valuables are out of sight, and your keys are inside with you makes a tremendous difference.

Let's work together to keep our neighborhoods safe and give opportunistic thieves nothing to work with. Park under the lights, take your keys, lock your doors, and help us protect Shorewood.

If you see something suspicious, please call the non-emergency number at 414.351.9900.

🎃 Shorewood, get your costumes ready! Village trick-or-treating is Saturday, October 31, from 1:00–4:00 PM.

The Shorewood Police Department wishes everyone a fun and safe Halloween! A few reminders before you head out:

👻 Walk with younger children and agree on a route and meeting place for older kids.

🚶 Use sidewalks and cross at corners or crosswalks. Look both ways, and make sure drivers see you before crossing.

🚗 Drivers, slow down and watch for children near intersections, parked cars, and driveways.

🍬 Check treats before young children eat them, and choose costumes and shoes that are easy to walk in.

Have a safe and spooktacular afternoon, Shorewood! 🧡

🚨 Vehicle Crime Prevention Alert 🚨

The Shorewood Police Department has recently seen an increase in thefts from motor vehicles and attempted auto thefts. While thieves are looking for easy targets, a few simple steps can help protect your vehicle:

🔒 Lock your doors and close your windows
💡 Park in well-lit areas
👀 Keep valuables out of sight
🚫 Never leave keys or key fobs inside your vehicle
🛑 Consider using a steering wheel lock or other anti-theft device
📍 Enable vehicle tracking or location services if available

Remember: If a thief sees an opportunity, they may take it. If they see security, they'll often move on.

🐾 Don't leave the door open for crime. Lock it. Hide it. Secure it.

At the Shorewood Police Department, we fully support the safe and responsible use of bicycles and properly classified e-bikes. Whether you're commuting, exercising, or just out for fun, we ask everyone to do their part to keep our roads safe.

Here's what every rider should know:
✅ E-bikes that meet Wisconsin's Class 1, 2, or 3 standards are legal to operate where bicycles are permitted (subject to local regulations).
❌ E-motos (electric dirt bikes/off-road motorcycles), even if they have pedals, are not legal to operate on public roads, sidewalks, bike paths, or multi-use trails because they do not meet Wisconsin's legal definition of an e-bike.

A few friendly reminders:
🪖 Helmets are strongly recommended for every rider—your best accessory is one that protects your brain.
🚦 Obey all traffic signs, signals, and laws. E-bikes are vehicles on the roadway and come with the same responsibilities as bicycles.
👀 Be visible! Use lights at night and wear bright or reflective clothing.
👦 Riders under 16 years of age may not operate a Class 3 e-bike on roadways in Wisconsin.
🤝 Ride courteously and share the road and trails with everyone.

Our goal isn't to stop you from having fun—it's to help ensure everyone gets home safely. A little knowledge goes a long way toward preventing crashes, injuries, and unnecessary enforcement.

Distracted driving can change everything in a split second.

When your eyes are on your phone instead of the road, you may not see the danger until it’s too late. An animal running into traffic, a stopped vehicle, or a child crossing the street can happen without warning.

No text, notification, or social media post is worth risking a life. Stay alert, stay focused, and keep your eyes on the road.

Put the phone down before you drive.
