โšฝ๏ธ ๐ŸšจWORLD CUP ADVISORY: OPERATION SOCCER SAFE๐Ÿšจ โšฝ๏ธ

Planned activities for cheering on World Cup are well underway and we want celebrations to happen safely. (GO USA!)

We will be patrolling Shorewood's roadways to prevent our community from "impeding traffic" or "driving while under the influence.

We know the World Cup can be intense. Tempers flare, goalies flop (we see you), and beverages are consumed. But hereโ€™s the Shorewood Police Department perspective on post-game tactics:

Diving vs. Driving: While we respect a tactical flop on the pitch, we have zero tolerance for "drinking and diving." It's not a legal defense, and we will use the video replay. ๐Ÿš”

Red Cards are Real: If you've been "red-carded" by adult beverages, you're not getting a warning. Your keys are immediately impounded, and you are taking a ride in the back of the "Squad of Safety." ๐ŸŸฅ

The Foul Play: "Drunk driving" is a definite foul, and it comes with mandatory penalties that aren't for the faint of heart.

Use RIDESHARE, a CAB, or a DESIGNATED DRIVER. These are the players you sub in when you're too tipsy to make the game-winning drive.

Letโ€™s keep the celebrations legendary and the roads safe. Use your head (for cheering, not for thinking you can drive drunk).

Be a responsible fan, not a statistic. Go USA!

๐Ÿš”๐ŸŒซ๏ธ FOG ALERT FROM THE SHOREWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ๐Ÿš”

Fog may look cool in movies, but it's a lot less fun when you're trying to find the car in front of you.

If you're hitting the road in foggy conditions, remember these simple safety tips:

โœ… Slow down
โœ… Turn on your headlights (and fog lights if equipped)
โœ… Leave extra space between vehicles
โœ… Avoid sudden braking
โœ… Use your turn signals early

Think of fog as nature's way of saying, "Maybe today isn't the day to test your NASCAR skills." ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ˜…

A few extra seconds of caution can prevent a lifetime of regret. Give yourself more time to react, make yourself visible to other drivers, and arrive safely at your destination.

๐ŸŒซ๏ธ Drive carefully. Arrive safely.
Your familyโ€”and the officers who respond to crashesโ€”will thank you.

Today, the Shorewood Police Department honors the memory of Milwaukee Police Officer Charles "Chuckie" Irvine Jr., who made the ultimate sacrifice eight years ago today, on June 7, 2018.

We stand in continuous support of his family, his loved ones, and our brothers and sisters at the Milwaukee Police Department. Officer Irvineโ€™s service will never be forgotten.

A safe, walkable community is a shared responsibility.

Crosswalks exist to protect everyone and drivers have a strict legal obligation to yield or stop for pedestrians, bicyclists, and individuals using mobility devices who have entered the roadway.

However, safety is never a one-way street. Crosswalk users must also exercise good judgment by avoiding entering a crosswalk when an oncoming vehicle is simply too close to stop safely, and by strictly obeying traffic signals when crossing at a light.

As a community and a Police Department, our ultimate goal is to ensure that every resident and visitor can navigate our streets and return home safely.

By taking a moment to review these state guidelines, we can look out for one another, and build a safer environment for everyone in our neighborhoods.
