1. The Shorewood Neighborhood Greenway DRAFT plan is out! Thanks to everybody that helped us get to this point. 2027 Budget Update

The Village's portion of a property tax bill is approximately 28%. Milwaukee County, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, Milwaukee Area Technical College and Shorewood School District collect the remaining 72%.

In September, the Village Board reviewed the 2027 Budget Outlook, fiscal forecast, revenue and expenditures compositions. The draft budget includes a 3% tax levy increase.

For the average $586,000 home, 1% equates to an additional $31 in property taxes on the Village's portion of the tax bill.

At our meeting on Monday, October 5, the Village Board will review the budget by Department fund, and provide direction on the proposed budget. Following this meeting, the budget public hearing will take place on Monday, November 16 at 7:30 pm. Upcoming Concrete and Joint Repairs on Capitol Drive

The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works anticipates performing concrete and joint repairs on the Capitol Drive bridge over the Milwaukee River. Traffic control for the project will be placed between N. Holton Street and N. Wilson Drive and work will begin the week of October 6.

Repairs will be completed in two stages and each stage is anticipated to take one week to complete. Traffic control will be installed as shown below, but traffic will be maintained in both directions on Capitol Drive.

Help Shape the Future of Milwaukee County Transit System

The Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) is currently engaging Milwaukee County residents with its MCTS Forward project. MCTS Forward is a collaborative effort to plan the future of public transit in the county amid projected budget shortfalls. MCTS is asking the community to weigh in on two conceptual approaches to a potential 25% service reduction.

The Ridership concept would offer fewer routes with more frequent service, while the Coverage concept would maintain service across more areas with less frequency. These are conceptual approaches – not final plans – and community input will help inform decisions about the future of public transportation. The concepts illustrate different tradeoffs, and community feedback received about them will help inform MCTS and the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors as they determine future transit priorities this winter. Public input on the draft plan is scheduled to be completed next spring.

Night of the Ghost Train: Save the Date!

Mark your calendar for the Night of the Ghost Train on Saturday, October 31 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.

This family-friendly event will feature activities and entertainment for the whole family. Stop by the Oak Leaf Trail bridge at Capitol Dr. and Wilson Dr. after trick or treating and bring your carved pumpkin for the chance to win a prize, enjoy hot chocolate around the fire, and view a special Halloween-themed light display on the Ghost Train bridge (viewable from the patio at Corner Bakery).

Please join us on Saturday, November 7 for one of Shorewood's favorite events, the annual fall yard clean-up.

Volunteers help older and disabled neighbors with light yard work. It's a great way for families, students (anyone!) to connect with neighbors and to give back to the community. No job takes more than 3 hours. Volunteers get a free t-shirt, a donut and a Culver's coupon. NHS students earn volunteer hours.

Important notice from the Shorewood Police Department:

PUBLIC NOTICE

The Village of Shorewood (Police Department) has been notified that Working America, a community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, will be conducting door-to-door organizing starting September 29. 2026, and continuing through January 29, 2027.

This activity is legally permitted in Wisconsin and is considered constitutionally protected political speech, meaning no local permit is required.

Working America’s canvassers are professionally trained and may carry prominently displayed picture identification or wear red safety vests that display their affiliation. The canvassers do not sell any kind of products. Canvassing will generally occur from 3:00pm to 9:00pm.

Residents are not required to engage, may decline conversation, and may ask canvassers to leave their property at any time, which must be respected.
