It’s Day 1 of MC3! 🚌 Students from Newcomb, Kirtland, and Shiprock have arrived and are beginning their Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) pre-apprenticeship training today.

A big thank you to Local Union 412 for bringing this experience to CCSD graduates. MC3 covers construction trade skills, blueprint reading, health and safety, financial literacy, and more β€” all leading to industry-recognized certifications including OSHA 10, CPR & First Aid, and an MC3 Certificate of Completion. These recent graduates will be out in the field soon.

πŸŽ“ Congratulations to our D.A.R.E. graduates at Kirtland Elementary School and Judy Nelson Elementary School!

Last month, sixth graders from both schools completed the 10-week D.A.R.E. program led by SRO VerHaar in partnership with the San Juan County Sheriff's Office.

These students walked across the gym floor having earned more than a certificate β€” they gained real tools for making smart decisions, resisting peer pressure, and standing up for themselves and their community.

A huge thank you to SRO VerHaar, the San Juan County Sheriff's Office, and the staff at both schools for investing in our students. D.A.R.E. is more than a program β€” it's a commitment to the future of our children.

The district office got a special treat this week β€” a visit from some of CCSD's newest interns! Through the Innovation Zone Grant, CCSD is proud to offer FFA students a first-of-its-kind in-house internship experience, bringing real industry opportunities directly to our agriculture students.

These young interns are building rΓ©sumΓ©s, sharpening employability skills, and completing their CTE coursework β€” all while earning stipends through 20–25 hours of meaningful, hands-on work each week.

This is work-based learning: rooted in community, driven by purpose, and designed to open doors. And we're just getting started β€” the district hopes to expand this model into additional CTE programs in the future. Congratulations to our FFA interns on completing the application process and taking this exciting step forward.

CCSD is proud to shine a light on Mrs. Rachael Charleston, a 4th-grade teacher at Mesa Elementary who has been recognized as for her outstanding commitment to student growth, instructional excellence, and leadership throughout the school community.

In her classroom, Mrs. Charleston has created a vibrant, data-rich learning environment where every student knows their path to success. Through her meticulous use of student-facing "Data Walls" and personalized Data ELA and Data Math groups, she celebrates individual progress and ensures high expectations are paired with high levels of support. Her mastery of the HMH "Into Reading" curriculum and Science of Reading principles comes alive through innovative, multi-modal lessonsβ€”blending traditional literacy instruction with BrainPop videos, Promethean Board activities, and hands-on learning experiences that engage visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners simultaneously.

Mrs. Charleston serves as PLC Lead and Science Lead, facilitating professional learning communities and mentoring colleagues in inquiry-based learning and vertical alignment. Her classroom serves as a "Learning Lab" where she models high-quality instruction for the entire school community. Whether fostering a PAX-centered classroom where every student has a voice and a role, or collaborating with the Innovation Transformation Team to drive school-wide growth, Mrs. Charleston remains a steadfast advocate for academic excellence and equity. Congratulations, Mrs. Charleston, from all of us at CCSD!
