Yá’át’ééh! During yesterday’s virtual session with Ranchers and Farmers from across the Navajo Nation, we had a wonderful and informative discussion with Mr. Tom Chee. We appreciate everyone who took time to join the conversation and share their expertise, experiences, and insights regarding ranching and agriculture.
Participants asked thoughtful and insightful questions that provided Mr. Tom Chee with important perspectives to consider as we continue developing and refining agricultural and ranching opportunities across the Navajo Nation.
Several important topics were discussed, including the Navajo Nation’s current approach and perception toward agriculture and ranching, existing funding levels, and potential funding sources to strengthen agricultural development. The conversation also explored how federal agricultural subsidies may impact opportunities on the Navajo Nation and how those resources could be leveraged to support both small-scale and larger agricultural operations.
The group discussed successful farming and ranching models from across the United States and considered how some of those approaches could potentially be adapted and replicated within our Navajo communities. Another important discussion centered around feedlot opportunities and how Navajo ranchers could participate in developing and expanding cattle operations to support economic growth.
Most importantly, the conversation was solution-oriented. Participants focused on practical ideas for implementing, expanding, and creating successful agriculture, farming, and ranching opportunities that benefit our people and future generations.
Thank you again to everyone who joined us during yesterday’s virtual meeting and contributed to this meaningful discussion. We want to hear your voice.
Have a wonderful and productive day!
TOM CHEE “4” Navajo Nation President 2026
