This container of smelling salts was given to us by another one of our dear friends, Michelle "Myke" Karr. Her parents owned and operated the funeral home before we bought it in 1984.

On Friday, January 2, 2026, Kevin J. Dusenbury, Coroner, was sworn into office as Potter County Coroner by the Honorable Stephen Minor, for his ninth term in office.

Kevin states in these years he has been very thankful to the voters who have overwhelmingly supported him. He has made many friends in the day to day operation of the office with members of every fire and ambulance department, law enforcement, nurses and physicians, and the lab at UPMC Cole, along with his colleagues at the Erie County Coroner’s Office, and Dr. Todd, the pathologist at the Erie County Coroner’s Office.

The Coroner’s Office also is happy to share that through grants made available to the Coroner’s Offices throughout the Commonwealth, we have, over the years, received over $80,000.00 to use for expenses relevant to our office---at no expense to Potter County residents.

Dusenbury thanks each of the Deputy Coroners who serve with him. Kevin states he has an amazing group of partners who bring a wide range of talents to the office, from law enforcement, fire and EMS backgrounds, but is most especially thankful for the friendships he shares with each of them.

It is his sincere prayer that no family needs our services, but rest assured our office motto remains the same as day one, “qualified, experienced, available and caring, yes very caring.”

With Best Regards, Kevin J. Dusenbury, Potter County Coroner

Kevin and Patty Dusenbury of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, announce that the 25th Gift of Memory program has been an astonishing success, thanks to the many generous donors and supporters of this yearly event.
“We have donors from the first year that continue to donate and new donors every year. We had several donors who contributed very generous amounts of monies which allowed us to shop for specific needs to purchase items for the older children”.
Dusenbury, who is the owner and funeral director of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home in Shinglehouse and the Potter County Coroner stated, “we are once again amazed by the generosity of so many people. We truly THANK each person who donated, assuring that many less fortunate individuals and families will have a brighter and happier Christmas. We wish everyone a beautiful, blessed and very Merry Christmas.”
Delivering the toys to the Christmas House in Coudersport were Carl and Ronda Dickerson who have taken this program as one of their own to facilitate a happier Christmas for many children of Potter County, the Klesa family, who have graciously embraced the Gift of Memory program for many years to honor their son and brother, Jon, and Kevin and Patty Dusenbury.

We have one week left collecting toys and gifts for our 25th Gift of Memory program at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home in Shinglehouse, which benefits the Christmas House in Coudersport. These gifts are distributed to area families throughout the county that need help during the Christmas season. We will collect items until Monday, December 1, 2025.
