šŸ“£Another proud moment for Precinct 3!šŸ“£

Congratulations to Tioga’s own Zandar Zafar on winning the 2A Individual State Golf Championship — an incredible accomplishment and testament to the hard work and dedication he’s put into his sport.ā›³ļø

We also had the honor of recognizing the Tioga Bulldogs Boys Track & Field team for capturing their second consecutive UIL Class 2A State Championship! These young men continue to raise the bar year after year.

The Bulldogs brought home Gold in both the 4x200 and 4x400 relays, Bronze in the 4x100, and in the 4x200 relay they broke their own UIL Class 2A state record that they previously set just last year.

Back-to-back state titles and record-breaking performances — what an amazing accomplishment for Tioga ISD and our entire community. Grayson County is proud of you all! šŸ†šŸ…šŸ¾

šŸ“£I’ve been blessed to say this often, but this is by far one of the best parts of serving as Commissioner — celebrating the accomplishments of our youth, especially from Precinct 3.

Congratulations to the Gunter Tigers Boys Golf Team on bringing home the Class 3A State Championship! The Tigers claimed their first-ever state title in Austin after an incredible two-day performance, tying the 3A state record team score with a 613.ā›³ļø

A special congratulations to Austin Anderson for earning the individual state title, finishing 8-under par and tying the 3A individual record.

Proud of Coach Joe Bullard, Austin Anderson, Jacob Krupa, Lathan Pecina, Frankie Ratajski, and Brody Hicks for representing Gunter and Grayson County so well.

Congratulations also to Gunter ISD leadership, Superintendent Brandon Enos, Principal Josh Barton, and Athletic Director Jordan Gill on this historic achievement. Go Tigers! šŸ…ā›³šŸ†

Heads up: The tin horn has finally arrived for Hog Town Road, and we’ll be replacing it Monday and Tuesday.

The road will be temporarily closed during that time so our crew can safely complete the work.

As always, timing is weather-dependent and subject to equipment and other construction variables. Please plan accordingly and use an alternate route.

We appreciate your patience as we work to improve our Pct. 3 county roads.

šŸ’Today we’re celebrating one of the very best — Valarie!šŸ’

She answers every call, keeps the paperwork straight, and keeps the precinct barn running like it should…

…and then there’s her toughest job of all — wrangling a group of grown men on a daily basis šŸ˜„

If that’s not a full-time job by itself, we don’t know what is.

We’d be completely lost (and probably behind) without her.

Happy Administrative Professionals Day, Valarie — you keep us all in line, whether we like it or not! šŸ’“

One of the most common misunderstandings about property taxes is thinking it all goes to one place.

In reality, your property tax bill is made up of multiple taxing entities, each responsible for setting their own tax rate.

That often includes:

• School Districts
• County Government
• Cities (if you live in one)
• College Districts
• Special Districts

Even though your payment is made to the County Tax Assessor-Collector, that office is responsible for collecting and distributing those funds to each taxing entity — it doesn’t all stay with the county.

Each of these entities plays a different role in providing services to our community.

That’s why your tax bill can feel complicated — it’s not just one decision, it’s several.

This is part of our Grayson County Tax Education Series, based on information shared during our recent community learning session with Blake Bennett from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.

The more we understand the process, the better conversations we can have as a community.

Big kudos to our Grayson County Sheriff's Office and Deputy Lemus for the work on this šŸ‘

This is a great example of the work our deputies are doing every day—seeing an issue, sticking with it, and getting results. And nearly 350 tires? That’s not small—that’s a mess that impacts our roads, our land, and our community.

And I’ll be honest—this is also incredibly frustrating.

While this specific case was in Precinct 2, illegal dumping is something we deal with far too often across the county, including right here in Precinct 3. Our road crews spend valuable time cleaning up messes that shouldn’t be there in the first place.

If you’ve got items like this—PLEASE don’t dump them in our county right-of-way.

šŸ‘‰ Bring them to our Spring Clean-Up Day on April 25th. That’s exactly what it’s for.

Let’s take care of our roads, our land, and each other.

šŸ‘‰ Who is responsible for what?

Here’s a quick simple breakdown:

šŸ”¹ County Government:
County roads & bridges
Sheriff’s Office
Courts & jail
Emergency management
Elections
Property records
Health Department

šŸ”¹ Cities:
City streets
Water & sewer
Police & fire (inside city limits)
Zoning & development

šŸ”¹ State (like Texas Department of Transportation):
Highways (US 75, US 82, FM roads)
Major transportation projects

šŸ”¹ Appraisal District:
Determines property values

This is where a lot of frustration comes from—because it’s not always clear who to call. But if you reach out to me and it’s not the County’s responsibility, I’ll help point you in the right direction.
