Here’s a neat story from the Sherman Animal Shelter.

After spending 17 days away from her home, a local dog named Alice was reunited with her family this week after a community member spotted her and contacted the shelter.

Alice and her family later stopped by with a thank you card and some bundt cakes for Cheyenne and the rest of the shelter staff.

We thought it was a kind gesture, and we’re glad Alice is back home.

It’s been a little bit since we checked in with the Sherman Animal Shelter, so we stopped by this morning to say hi to some of the residents.

The shelter is currently near capacity, and we met a few good-looking pups who would probably tell you they prefer a couch or backyard over another night in the kennel.

As your summer gets underway, consider adopting, fostering, or even volunteering. For families looking for something positive to be part of this summer, the shelter is a great place to start.

On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 4:44 p.m., Sherman Police began receiving multiple emergency phone calls about shots fired in the 1300-block of West Taylor Street. It was determined the shooting occurred at a residence.

Officers arrived and were directed to 35-year-old Tara Gill, who was reportedly responsible for the shooting. Gill was detained while the investigation continued.

Detectives determined Gill was inside the residence with four other individuals, three of whom were her children. Gill was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis when she retrieved a pistol and discharged multiple rounds in the direction of the individuals inside the residence.

Nobody was injured by the gunfire. However, one of the individuals inside the residence sustained a minor injury after climbing through a broken window while escaping the scene.

Gill was ultimately arrested on four counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Officers also applied for emergency protective orders on behalf of the victims.

Sherman PD’s Criminal Investigation Division is leading the ongoing investigation.

For more than 25 years, there hasn’t been a single day without a traffic fatality on a Texas roadway.

With school ending, summer travel increasing, and more drivers on the road for Memorial Day weekend, please remember to make safe choices behind the wheel.

Wear your seatbelt, stay off your phone, and never drive impaired.

A couple of months ago, a group from our community signed up for our Spring Citizens Police Academy.

For several weeks, they gave up part of their Thursday evenings to learn more about our agency, ask questions, engage in conversation, and get a closer look at the work our officers do each day.

Programs like this are built on people willing to show up, engage, and be a part of the conversation.

Last week, we had the opportunity to celebrate their graduation from the program. We are thankful for the time and effort they invested in getting to know our agency better.

If you’re interested in participating in future Citizens Police Academy programs, make sure you follow us on Facebook for future announcements.
