Last week I spent a few days in Austin advocating for and representing Grayson County.
I started on Wednesday where the TxDOT Commissioners met to approve the 2027 UTP (Unified Transportation Plan) that funds transportation projects throughout the State. There were many officials that took notice of the commitment and resilience that Grayson County showed in the public comments. Our community provided 47% of all the total comments throughout the state on the UTP. Even though we did not receive additional funding from the drafted UTP, eyes were opened. I was proud to inform the Commissioners that Grayson County and its constituents are determined to get our projects fully funded as our growth and traffic demands increase. The takeaway from the meeting from one Commissioner: “We are on their radar and the projects will be moving forward soon.”
On Thursday, I was honored to be asked to sit on a panel discussion in front of my peers to discuss Transportation Funding at the local, state, and federal levels. As a County Commissioner, it is important that we express our transportation needs in Grayson County at all levels of the government to ensure funding (your tax dollars) are brought back to Grayson County to be spent on our roads. I told our local story about the growth we are experiencing and it resonated with fellow elected officials. The Federal Government is currently working on a 5-year transportation reauthorization bill (BUILD America 250 Act). In partnership with NACo (National Association of Counties), I have made several trips to Washington DC to meet with the offices of several Congressional Representatives, Senators, and the White House to ensure the concerns of Counties are heard and why we need to maintain or increase funding in order to keep up with growth demands.
It’s an honor to represent the people of Grayson County and ensure that our voices and needs are heard at every level of government.

Beginning today, August 27, Precinct 1 crews have begun working on Curtis Lake Rd (marked in YELLOW), Rose Hill Rd (marked in RED), Wild Rd (marked in BLUE), and Joe Davis Rd (marked in ORANGE). The crews will begin grinding Curtis Lake Rd, then move to Wild Rd, and then on to Joe Davis Rd. Rose Hill Rd was previously grounded last month.

Starting on Monday, August 31, Precinct 1 crews will begin to pack in the remaining sections of Rose Hill Rd, then move to Curtis Lake Rd, next to Wild Rd, and lastly to Joe Davis Rd. After the roads are packed and cured, they will have a paved chip rock application applied to the surface.

This process is planned to last for the next 3-4 weeks in the area. Please watch for and obey warning signs, plan accordingly for detours of alternate routes, and drive safely around the construction equipment and work crews for their safety and yours.

Beginning the afternoon of Monday, August 24 and the morning of Tuesday August, 25, Precinct 1 crews will begin the grinding process of rebuilding Swanner Drive (marked in RED). This rebuild is part of an Interlocal Agreement passed earlier in the year between the City of Howe, Texas and Grayson County.

The process of building and setting up the base for the road will last through Thursday, August 27.

We ask that all persons living along Swanner Drive to move any vehicles or objects off and out of the road during the working hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm each day to ensure work can be completed without delay and without towing/removal of property.

As always, please slow down in the work zone and watch out for construction crews and equipment for their safety and yours. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience during this construction process.

ROAD CLOSED ALERT FOR MONDAY, AUGUST 24: Between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, E. Duke Street and Old Patterson Road (marked in RED), located east of HWY 5, will be closed to ALL TRAFFIC for road work.

⚠️If you live or traverse the area on Old Highway 6 or Mardell Lane (marked in YELLOW), please use the detour route of Old Highway 6 to Dickens Road (marked in GREEN) to access HWY 5 during the closure hours.

👷‍♂️Precinct 1 crews will be working to complete the base work for the rebuild of these roads prior to final chip rock application within the next 10 days. We appreciate your cooperation while we get the roads rebuilt. This closure is only planned to last 1 day.
