Need Help Paying Your Electricity or Gas Bill? If you’re having trouble keeping up with your electricity, gas, or propane bill, help may be available through TCOG’s Utility Assistance Program.

Applying? Be prepared! To help avoid delays, submit copies of all required documentation with your application, including:

- Proof of income
- Proof of U.S. citizenship
- Photo ID
- Current utility bill showing a balance owed
- Child custody/guardianship documentation, when applicable

Our current wait time is approximately 3 weeks for applicants who provide all required documentation with their application. Applications can be mailed or dropped off at one of our office locations. Applications are not accepted by email.

In Texas, dialing 2-1-1 connects you to a free service that provides information and referrals for a wide range of social and human services, including help with food, housing, utility bills, and healthcare.

It can also assist with finding services for children, seniors, and veterans, as well as support for crises like domestic violence, disaster relief, and substance abuse. The service is available 24/7 via phone and often has online resources as well.
