Ruby Valley Conservation District / Ruby Watershed Council

Ruby Valley Conservation District / Ruby Watershed Council The RVCD administers 310 permits and coordinates technical and financial assistance for conservation on the ground.

Working together, the Ruby Valley Conservation District (RVCD) and the Ruby Watershed Council (RWC) are committed to uniting agriculture, recreation, conservation and education in the area while “protecting the land and preserving our heritage”. Conservation districts work locally to fulfill the state's policy to conserve soil, water, and other natural resources of the state. The Ruby Valley Conse

rvation District (RVCD) was formed in 1939 and was tasked with enforcing the Natural Streambed and Land Preservation Act, also known as the "310 Law." The RWC was created to assist the RVCD in understanding and characterizing the natural resources of the Ruby Watershed and to publicly share this information in a balanced, collaborative approach with all local and regional stakeholders. In this way, all citizens of the watershed benefit through the work of the council and the council builds important local support. The council is comprised of appointed volunteers who represent a broad spectrum of the Ruby Watershed community.

We recently hosted our 20th annual Kid’s River Resource Day at Silver Spring Ranch, and it was a beautiful day for learning! We’ve heard through the grapevine that this is an event the kids look forward to all year! Over 90 elementary school students participated in the event, which ran all day and rotated through 7 different interactive natural resource stations. Stations included the Rolling Rivers Trailer, Macroinvertebrates, Pollinators, Wildlife Management, Mammal Skull Identification, the Invasive Species Trailer, and Fish Identification.

This event could not have happened without the following participants: Silver Spring Ranch, Lewis and Clark Conservation District, Madison River Foundation, Madison Conservation District, Jack Creek Preserve, Grow Wild, and Montana Trout Unlimited. MWCC Watershed Fund, Montana DEQ, and EPA funded this event. The Ruby Valley Conservation District would like to thank all who participated, we’ll see you again next year!!
