Be weather aware tonight, there are tornadoes in southern Indiana possibly tracking towards Bullitt County.

Have multiple ways to get warnings, tornado sirens are for outside warnings only, do not depend on just those!

We will try to keep you up to date as much as possible, but please have other methods of getting weather information.

After waiting three long years, the construction of our new engine has finished. Engine company 84 will take up residence at our fire station in Brooks, just off Coral Ridge Road, hopefully by the end of July.

Several tasks must be completed before the engine is ready for calls. The apparatus will travel to the dealer’s shop to attend to deficiencies discovered during last week’s final inspection. Then equipment will be moved/installed. Lastly, we will spend time training apparatus operators, giving them ample time to get accustomed to the truck. Our fingers are crossed this takes about a month.

We were fortunate to get the apparatus ordered when we did. “Lead” times for new fire apparatus are reported to be 4-5 years in some cases. It takes up to 7,000 hours to construct a fire apparatus according to Pierce Manufacturing, who built this unit.

Unfortunately, the cost of fire apparatus has skyrocketed like everything else. The cost of aluminum has gone up National Fire Protection Association fire apparatus construction standards and federal emissions standards have affected fire apparatus.

Another good thing for firefighter safety, but bad on the price tag, are additional safety features. Recently developed safety features include rollover stability; tire pressure indicators; enhanced step and work surface lighting; and cab integrity testing. The bottom-line price tag was $1,164,000.

We will most likely have a "push-in" ceremony when the truck is placed in service. This is a fire service tradition, as getting a new apparatus is pretty infrequent - this is our third apparatus purchase since 2005.

This evening Zoneton responded on a shed fire with the assistance of Okolona Fire on North Steedland Dr.

The original call was a structure fire in the area.

Pioneer Village Police were first on the scene advising a shed fire.

No injuries were reported (Bullitt County EMS stood by on the scene with us as well)and the fire was contained to the shed.

We continue to have great relationships with all our neighboring first responders and thank them for assisting when needed!

Tonight members from Zoneton and Shepherdsville Fire Department worked on downed firefighter drills.

Also known as RIT.

(A Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), also known as a Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) or Firefighter Assist and Search Team (FAST), is a group of firefighters assigned exclusively to firefighter rescue. Their primary mission is to stand ready to deploy immediately if a firefighter becomes trapped, disoriented, low on air, or injured inside a burning structure. RIT teams do not engage in fire attack, search, ventilation, or suppression unless ordered after a Mayday is declared)

This is training that no firefighter ever wants to have to use on their brother or sister, but it is absolutely necessary training and could save a life!

We continue to train with the agencies in Bullitt County to provide the best service available to our residents!
