We are gearing up for our Halloween neighborhood visits! This will be our seventh year of travelling throughout our district and passing out bags of treats to kids. We usually see over 2,000 little ones during the three-day project.

This is possible because of our community’s generosity. We receive bags of treats from citizens, candy donations from community groups and financial support from businesses.

We are asking again for help from our caring community. You can deliver bags of candy to our station one on Preston near Little Flock Church. Weekdays during business hours is best.

If you, your business or community organization would prefer to make a financial contribution, please contact Deputy Chief Tracey Key at 955-8076 ext 107 to work out the details.

On behalf of the kids and their parents who benefit from the Halloween project, we thank you very much!

Please help us to spread the word by sharing this post.

(We will be making more posts with additional information when October comes around).

Our neighbors, Fairdale Fire & EMS are hosting live fire training this week at their training facility. Joining us were Pleasure Ridge Fire with Fern Creek Fire Department covering calls for service while training was being accomplished.

It was hot, but not too humid, fortunately. Many things go into live fire trainings, all for safety reasons. Briefings, Walk-through the scene, vital sign checks before and after. Most important on these hot days is "Rehab" where firefighters replenish lost fluids and electrolytes.

Straw and sometimes wood pallets are the only things burned. Two reasons, one is controllable fire for safety and the other is air pollution considerations.

Last week, crews from Bullitt County agencies conducted training on auto extrication and vehicle stabilization. We would like to give a huge thank you to Troys Wrecker Service, Sunbelt Rentals, and Midwest Towing & Transportation Group - MTTG for providing vehicles and equipment for the training.

One of the most satisfying things we do as firefighters is put a smile on a young person's face.

Thursday evening, we had the Quint (ladder truck) in front of station one, all lit up, to take some photos. A car pulled in and (guessing) grandparents had a little person who wanted to see the fire truck. Of course we were more than happy to oblige and even pass out one of the plastic fire hats we keep on had for just such things.

Doing that made it a real great day for us!

We did a good thing Tuesday morning! A poor horse got stuck in the mud near a pond off Zoneton Road. We assisted the owners and the veterinarian with extricating the animal. Tony’s Wrecker did heavy lifting.

The concrete around the fire station takes a beating with the heavy fire apparatus. We’ve been putting off replacing the worst of it for several years. This year we are starting the first of several phases to deal with excessively worn concrete. We have been at this location for more than 30 years. As you see in the photos, we have more areas of cracked concrete that is getting bad. Hopefully as time goes along, we’ll get to this too. It’ll take 15 concrete trucks just for the portion done today. They got started at 4:30 this morning.
