Please join us in welcoming Ashley to her new role at Central Library! 🎉
After the incredible job she did helping bring the Science in Play2Go exhibit to life, we're excited to officially welcome Ashley as our new Children's Event Planner. Her creativity, enthusiasm, and passion for helping children learn through exploration made a lasting impression on both staff and visitors, and we're thrilled she'll be continuing that work at BCPL.
Ashley will be creating fun, engaging events and experiences for children and families at Central, and we can't wait to see all the ideas she brings to the role. ⭐⭐⭐
Here are a few get-to-know-me FAQs Ashley shared with us about herself and her plans for the position!
1. What interested you about this position?
I love event planning and creating spaces for people to gather around a purpose (fun, education, books, music, art, etc). I was really interested in this position due to the opportunity to get creative and support the community. I also love supporting our public libraries because they serve as vast resources for learning, growing, sharing ideas, and discovering more about our interests while finding a welcoming place of belonging.
2. What types of events or experiences are you most excited to create?
I'm most excited about creating interactive events like sing-alongs, writing/art/science workshops, and sensory-friendly events. Above all, I'm planning some events that are sure to spark inspiration for kids and families so they can continue to learn/create more at home!
3. What do you hope children and families will gain or learn from attending your events?
I hope that children and families will find joy, connection, and community. I hope they will learn more about their passions and be able to use these events as a space to relax, have fun, and grow.
4. What do you enjoy most about working with children?
Kids are so curious and kind. They are so excited about whatever the topic might be and they can often be very inquisitive and ready to live in the moment - which is something I think all of us adults could remember more from time to time! I always enjoy sharing knowledge with them and also problem solving if I don't know an answer: "That is a great question about dinosaurs, let's do some research!"
5. What are some fun facts about you or interests you have outside of work?
I absolutely love making music, environmental research, and learning languages. As an event planner for the library, naturally I'm drawn to discovering new books. I also love reading and writing stories and poems. When I get the chance to travel, I love exploring nature, going to museums, and finding tasty plant-based restaurants.
Fun facts:
• I am currently learning French, Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic!
• I have my black belt in Taekwondo (a little rusty now though!)
• I play piano, guitar, and sing!
