Shepherdstown Fire Department

Shepherdstown Fire Department The oldest Fire Department in Jefferson County and the State of West Virginia. Firefighting in Shepherdstown has a long history extending back over 200 years.

Like the community we serve, we've seen good times and bad throughout the years. Together our community and fire department have helped each other survive and grow.

Firefighting operations often occur in adverse weather conditions, such as rain; therefore, comprehensive training in similar conditions is essential. This morning, two additional members successfully completed the apparatus driver training program. Our drivers undergo rigorous evaluation and training before being authorized to operate equipment. Congrats to FF Austin Croy for being cleared to operate Engine 3 and Rescue Engine 3, and Lt Steve Matson cleared to operate Truck 3.

Last night The Rotary Club of Shepherdstown welcomed us to their Wednesday evening meeting at the Bavarian Inn. It was an honor to be able to share about our organization - the history, the mission, the finances.

If you have an organization that would be interested in hearing more about your local fire department, please reach out via the Contact Us on our Website.

Lots of FI****MS ENTHUSIASTS on our page these days, so allow us to remind you that tickets to our annual Sportsman Bash go on sale in July/August timeframe. Thousands of dollars in fi****ms will be given away (all purchased from a local provider, VG Outdoors (with completed background checks)), cash prizes, all you can eat, all you can drink - all day! Ticket sell fast, and we sell out every year! Can’t wait to see you all in November!!

Thank you all for the spirited discussion! The comments have devolved to a repeat of the same thoughts and opinions, just shared in different ways and therefore comments have been restricted.

There are many social media posts circulating about a local church hosting an event to destroy fi****ms in our rear parking lot. We are in no way associated with this event.

The SFD has always been a partner to community organizations who utilize our space for certain events. We cannot discriminate against one group or the other. While we have NO affiliation with the event taking place this weekend, it is no different than the Red Cross using our space for blood drives (as they do monthly - join them and give blood 🩸). See you in November for our annual Sportsman’s Bash. 😉

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week! We couldn’t be more proud to have these people as our partners! The work they do is unimaginable and does not go unnoticed! We thank you for always going above and beyond for the community!

Today Shepherdstown Volunteers had the privilege of having Clark Fire and Safety Training in Shepherdstown for Elevator Training. A big thank you goes out to Shepherd University for allowing us to use the elevators on Campus for this training. We routinely run elevator calls at the University so it was a great opportunity to train on those same elevators!

Our condolences are with our neighbors today as we mourn the loss of a true public servant, Lenny Lehman.

Lenny wore many hats throughout his career—most notably as the retired EMS Chief at Blue Ridge Mountain Volunteer Fire Company and as a dedicated Paramedic in Berkeley County. Whether he was leading a crew or treating a patient in the back of an ambulance, Lenny’s commitment to his community was unwavering.

To his family and all those who worked alongside him: please know that the entire fire and EMS family stands with you during this difficult time.
Thank you for your service, Lenny.

We’ve officially run out of apple butter at the firehouse! If you were planning to stop by for a jar, we recommend checking out some of the other local markets nearby to see what they have in stock - Crestview and OHurley’s normally have SFD apple butter in stock.

We will produce it again in October 2026!
