Shepherdstown Market House Located in the heart of Shepherdstown, the Market House was built in the 1800s offering local farmers a sheltered place to sell their wares.

The Market House will undergo renovations and once completed, its use will be determined.

Here’s the latest update on the Market House-

Ronnie Crockett has assessed the building's immediate needs and we are waiting on a detailed list with quotes. It will most likely be a phased project with the 1st phase consisting of the following:

First Floor Main Area

1. Install drop down ceiling on first level with LED lighting.
2. Install new laminate flooring over existing.
3. Remove bookshelves (maintaining shelves' integrity for repurposing)
4. Repair plaster walls where needed (there's significant moisture damage around the window a/c unit on the west elevation).
5. Repaint walls.

Hello!! This is the first of many updates regarding the Shepherdstown Market House (SMH).

The SMH is in need of repairs and now that it is empty, with the Shepherdstown Library having successfully moved to their new, beautiful location, what better time to do it!

Global Environmental & Remediation, LLC was called in to do a mold and asbestos analysis. They tested for mold with the results being negative, and also conducted an asbesto analysis. Asbestos is contained within the first floor tiles which are secure, meaning no mitigation is required.
All Inclusive Expertise, LLC will be evaluating a building needs assessment for the electrical, plumbing, roof, etc. Once they complete the scheduled assessment, in 2 weeks, we will move forward with the necessary renovations.

Amy Boyd, Town Clerk for the Corporation of Shepherdstown, will generate a survey that will be shared on or around September 1st on this page, the website, and the email mailing. The survey will give the public an avenue to voice an opinion regarding the future use of the SMH.

Hello, and welcome to the Market House page. This page will serve to keep anyone interested in the Market House and its future. There will be weekly posts highlighting the renovations. Regarding what the MH will ultimately be used for will depend on how the renovations go. The renovations are expected to take awhile. Meanwhile, the Town Clerk will create a survey within the next month or so to get input on how the public sees its future use.

All posts here will also be added to the town website and the email mailing.
