This says a lot about the first responders we have here in Southwest Iowa. We work alongside the Page County Sheriff’s Office quite often, and they have always been a great group to work with and are always willing to lend a hand when needed.

Great job, Deputy Haffner! Keep up the great work!

Recently, Page County Deputy Haffner responded to a vehicle that had slid off the roadway and into a pond, becoming deeply embedded in thick mud. The passenger found himself trapped and was unable to free himself as the mud held him in place. Without hesitation, Deputy Haffner waded into the waist-deep mud and water to safely reach the passenger. With the assistance of some of the driver’s family members, Deputy Haffner was able to rescue the man and get him safely out of the vehicle.

This incident is a reminder that our deputies answer calls in all kinds of situations—not just those involving crime. Whether it's lending a helping hand, responding to emergencies, or putting themselves in uncomfortable and challenging conditions to protect others, they are committed to serving our community.

A heartfelt thank you to Deputy Haffner - your willingness to jump in without hesitation made all the difference and reflects the very best of Page County.

Today, members of Shenandoah Ambulance Service had the opportunity to take part in the Shenandoah Medical Center Foundation’s 2nd Annual Donor Society Luncheon.

This year’s event highlighted EMS and the plans for our new ambulance garage. It was an honor to share what this project will mean for our crews, our patients, and the communities we serve.

One of the most meaningful parts of today was hearing from former patients and their families as they shared their stories. Hearing firsthand the impact our EMS crews and Shenandoah Medical Center have had on their lives was incredibly powerful. It was a great reminder of why we do what we do and the difference our entire team can make on someone’s worst day.

Our new EMS facility will be much more than a place to park ambulances. It will provide our crews with dedicated living and sleeping quarters, training space, improved equipment and supply storage, and a facility designed to support the needs of a growing EMS service. Most importantly, it is an investment in the future of emergency medical care for Shenandoah and the surrounding communities.

A huge thank you to the Shenandoah Medical Center Foundation and our Distinguished Donors for your continued generosity and support. Projects like this would not be possible without people who believe in our hospital, our EMS service, and the future of healthcare in our community.

We are extremely excited about what is ahead for Shenandoah Ambulance Service and cannot wait to see this project become a reality.

WE’RE HIRING – FULL-TIME PARAMEDIC

Shenandoah Ambulance Service is looking for a Full-Time Paramedic to join our team!

This is an exciting time to join SAS. Our service continues to grow, and we are continuing to invest in our crews, equipment, training, and the future of EMS in our community.

One of the biggest things on the horizon is our new EMS garage and living quarters, scheduled to be built in 2027. This new facility will be designed specifically for our EMS team and will include improved ambulance and equipment space, crew living and sleeping quarters, offices, and dedicated training space.

As a Paramedic with SAS, you’ll have the opportunity to work in a progressive rural EMS system that provides both 911 emergency response and interfacility/critical-care transports. Being part of Shenandoah Medical Center also gives our crews the unique opportunity to work closely with Emergency Department staff, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

We also offer a schedule that provides a great balance between your EMS career and life outside of work. Our full-time schedule means working just 7 days per month, with only one weekend per month.

SHENFEST AIRPORT DAY – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27!

We hope you’ll join us at the Shenandoah Municipal Airport for ShenFest Airport Day and help support an exciting project for Shenandoah Ambulance Service!

Fly-In Breakfast | 7:30–10:30 AM

Enjoy biscuits & gravy and donuts for a freewill donation. A portion of the funds raised from the breakfast will be donated to the Shenandoah Medical Center Foundation’s Annual Giving Campaign, helping support the construction of our new ambulance garage and EMS facility.

Why is this project so important to our EMS crews and community?

Our new facility will provide Shenandoah Ambulance Service with:

* Three dedicated ambulance bays, allowing our emergency vehicles and equipment to remain protected, secure, and ready to respond.
* Dedicated sleeping quarters for our 24-hour EMS crews, giving providers an appropriate place to rest while remaining immediately available for emergencies.
* A dedicated training room where our EMTs and paramedics can continue hands-on education and advanced training.
* Improved crew living and work areas, including a kitchen, day room, offices, and other spaces designed specifically around a 24/7 EMS operation.
* A facility built for the future of EMS in our community, helping us recruit and retain quality providers while giving our crews the resources they need to provide the best possible care.

Every donation toward this project is an investment in the people who answer the call when our community needs them most.

Airport Day will also feature the Annual Classic Car & Truck Show, Touch-A-Truck, food from the Veterans Memorial Museum, and plenty of family-friendly activities throughout the day.

Happy EMS Week from Shenandoah Ambulance Service!

This week, we recognize the incredible men and women of EMS who dedicate their lives to serving others. Here at SAS, we are beyond proud of the crews who answer the call day and night for the communities of southwest Iowa.

Whether it is a critical emergency, transfer, standby event, mutual aid call, or simply helping someone on their worst day, our crews continue to show compassion, professionalism, teamwork, and dedication every single shift. Rural EMS is not easy, but this team continues to rise to the challenge and provide outstanding care to our patients and communities.

As Director, I could not be more proud of this group. I truly could not be half of what I am without the talent, hard work, and support of the crews standing beside me every day. Their commitment to this service and this community does not go unnoticed.

Thank you to our staff, our families, our hospital, and our community for supporting EMS. And thank you to EMS providers everywhere for the sacrifices you make and the care you provide every day.

"We are incredibly supportive of this year’s SMC Annual Giving Campaign, as it directly impacts the future of Shenandoah Ambulance Service and the care we provide to our community.

Currently, our space limits our ability to grow, train, and properly support our crews.
