Friends of the Shenandoah Public Library
Activities from July 2019 through June 2020
The Friends' Strategic Plan Goals direct our activities throughout the year:
Goal 1 – Support and Assist the Library Staff
Goal 2 – Develop, Initiate, and Sustain a Public Outreach and Information Program
Goal 3 – Support and Expand Library Programs for All Ages
Goal 4 – Manage Used Book Sale
The annual used Book Sale was held with 37 volunteers helping set-up, conduct the sale, and tear down. A record profit of $1500.04 was made.
The food pantry received free children's and adult books. Thank you to the volunteers and community for their support.
A permanent used book sale (free will donation) was maintained at the Shenandoah Medical gift shop. The proceeds were donated to the Essex Library.
A Cemetery Walk was held at Rose Hill Cemetery in conjunction with the Greater Shenandoah Historical Society. The Friends assisted with publicity and refreshments.
The Friends shared the cost with the Clarinda Public Library for a subscription to "Book Pages", a book review magazine which is free to library patrons.
Volunteers continue to assist with children's and teen activities including the early-out movie and "Kids Can Make" program.
A page and a page on the SPL's website are maintained.
The first Craft Supply Swap and the annual Magazine Giveaway were supported by volunteers.
A creative display is set up periodically in the newspaper reading room by the Friends In-House Library Chair, Duane Stuck.
Due to the Covid-19 virus, several regular and special activities and programs were canceled beginning in March 2020.
