The Shenandoah Borough Police Department is proud to announce that we are now participating in the Blue Envelope Program. The envelopes were provided courtesy of First Due Autism Training.

The Blue Envelope Program is a safety initiative designed to improve communication between law enforcement officers and drivers who may have a communication challenge such as autism. The program provides a clearly marked blue envelope that holds important documents like a driver’s license, registration, and insurance card. The envelope also alerts officers that the driver may require a little extra time, patience, or clear communication during a traffic stop.

When a driver presents the blue envelope, it serves as a helpful and non-verbal way to communicate that they may experience anxiety, sensory sensitivities, or difficulty with verbal interaction. This allows our officers to approach the situation with understanding and provide a calm and safe interaction for everyone involved.

Blue envelopes are available free of charge and can be picked up at the Shenandoah Borough Police Department.

We are committed to strengthening community relationships and ensuring positive interactions with all members of our community. If you have any questions about the program, please feel free to contact our department.

First Due Autism Training is an organization started by Zach Kirsch of the Orwigsburg Fire Department. Its mission is to provide autism awareness training to all first responders.
