Dear Community,
It has been my absolute honor to stand as your Candidate in District 100 over the last year.
While the campaign has come to a close and the results were not what we hoped, the work is far from over. I find myself in a moment of redirection, not resignation.
During this race, we ignited a movement for positive change in our community. With the support of nearly 200 volunteers, we were able to connect with thousands of community members and listen to their dreams for District 100. Thank you to every individual who knocked on doors, waved signs, hosted and attended events, wrote personal postcards, made phone calls, talked to friends and neighbors, and so much more. And thank you to our donors for funding our efforts. This campaign was fueled by all of you.
At this time, I am taking space to rest and process. I encourage others to take care of themselves, too. We have worked so hard, and we deserve a moment to pour into ourselves, before continuing to lift up our message for the future.
Please know that my commitment to this community and to you is not over. I am committed to advocating for the future of this place we call home. I hope that you will join me.
Within the word community is the word “unity.” It is critical – now more than ever – for us to find common ground, even in the midst of our differences. So that our communities can become safer and more loving places for all.
We must remember that we can rise above fear, because our collective hope and vision is greater. Thank you for believing in me and for being a part of the movement.
With care,
Maria Russo
