At last night's City Council meeting, City Clerk Mary Ricker administered the oath of office to Shelton's newest Councilmember, Kenneth Mobley.

The Council appointed Mobley to serve in seat 2, following the resignation of Melissa Stearns in July and an interview process earlier this month. Mobley will serve as Councilmember through December 2027.

City Council meets tonight (9/15) at 5:45 p.m. for a Shelton Metropolitan Parks District (SMPD) board meeting, followed by a regular Council meeting at 6:00 p.m.

Some topics on tonight's Council meeting agenda include:

- Adopting the City's Strategic Plan (Resolution No. 1454-0826)

Registration is now open for Parks & Recreation's women's 4x4 volleyball league! This league is limited to 12 teams. Games will be played on Mondays and Thursdays, from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., depending on the number of teams that sign up.

Registration deadline is Friday, September 25. The league will run from October 5 - December 17. The program fee is $400, and teams can register online at register.capturepoint.com/CityofShelton

Public Works crews, in partnership with PUD 3 and WSDOT, will be tree trimming along Olympic Highway South southbound between Delaware Street and Dearborn Avenue (MP 2.16 to MP 1.69) starting Monday, September 14.

Once southbound trimming has finished, crews will shift and work in the northbound lane.

Work is scheduled to take approximately two weeks to complete. There will be a lane shift for the duration of the project to minimize traffic disruption.

Lodging tax applications are due on Tuesday, September 8 by 5:00 p.m.!

The City of Shelton is now accepting applications for tourism funding grants, allocated through the City's lodging tax fund.

Applications and grant criteria are available on our website at sheltonwa.gov/LodgingTax. The grant application period is August 17 through Tuesday, September 8.

Completed applications can be turned in electronically to Administrative Support Assistant Giselle Tomich at [email protected].

The City's Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) will review applications before submitting its recommendations to City Council.

The City collects a 4% tax on lodging within Shelton city limits, which is dedicated to promoting tourism, supporting the operations of tourism-related facilities and activities, and general operations of special events and festivals designed to attract visitors to Shelton.

Miles Resources, a private contractor, will be completing work on the water main along West Railroad Avenue between Pacific Court and Deegan Road beginning Thursday, September 3 at 6:00 p.m.

Work is scheduled to begin Thursday, September 3 at 6:00 p.m. and finish on Friday, September 4 at 4:30 a.m. Water customers in this area will have no water service between 8:30 p.m. (Thursday) and 4:30 a.m. (Friday).

Impacted customers have also received doorhangers.

Registration is now open for Parks and Recreation's fall programs!

Available programs include all-levels yoga, women's 4x4 volleyball league, and a couple of new classes - sound baths with Joonbug Yoga and a conflict resolution course taught by certified mediators from the Dispute Resolution Center of Thurston County.
