Career Team was proud to sponsor the WORKing Together Conference 2026 at the Salem Convention Center once again this year, and this year's conference felt especially meaningful.

As we partner with the State of Oregon and workforce partners across the state to deliver their workforce software modernization, the conference gave us a valuable opportunity to begin sharing this effort with the broader workforce community.

Throughout the day, our team connected with attendees to talk about what modernization will mean for Oregon's workforce system, from streamlined service delivery to better tools for the staff and job seekers who rely on them every day.

We are grateful to the Oregon Employment Department’s Modernization Program and Workforce Operations leadership, who joined us in promoting the project and helped spark great conversations about the road ahead. Projects like this succeed through true partnership, and we are honored to be working alongside such dedicated colleagues.

Christa Castanon, Dacia Heck, and Jessica Stacy represented Career Team throughout the conference, and we were especially excited to welcome pre-apprentices to our booth, a powerful reminder of the people this work is ultimately for.

Kayla wears many hats on our North Bay Team. As Team Lead, she partners with leadership to improve operational processes and remove barriers from Career Advisors’ workflows. As North Bay Local Training Coordinator, she plays a key role in welcoming new staff and supporting them through onboarding, training, and troubleshooting.

Joining a new team can feel overwhelming, and Kayla makes sure no one has to navigate that transition alone! Through thoughtful one-on-one check-ins, she takes the time to understand each new team member’s needs and goals, then works alongside them to build a clear plan for success.

Director of Operational Excellence, Kelly Alesi, shares: “Kayla has been an incredibly supportive team member in her role as the local training coordinator. She approaches her check-ins with genuine care and intention, ensuring that staff feel seen, heard, and supported. It has been a true pleasure to work with Kayla and watch her develop in this role.”
Kayla’s favorite Career Team Core Value is #2: We Are Passionate. In her words, “This job brings out the best in people, and I’m inspired daily by our VIPs’ passion for excellence and obtaining their goals.”
What she enjoys most about working at Career Team is her North Bay coworkers: “We learn from each other’s challenges, celebrate each other’s accomplishments, and our camaraderie makes even the hardest days more fun.” She also values the chance to use her transferable skills as an educator, grow as a leader, and raise local awareness of Career Team’s workforce services.

Bollie was working in retail but knew he wanted a different career path. Underemployed and seeking a career with stronger long-term prospects, he recognized that upskilling would be the key to entering an in-demand field. He turned to our Pierce County Team to make that shift a reality.

Working closely with his Career Advisor, Audrey Larson, Bollie set his sights on the trucking industry. With Audrey's guidance and WIOA funding, he enrolled in and successfully completed training to earn his CDL-A license. Reflecting on the experience, he shared, "I want everyone to know about the great job Audrey and her team at the Tacoma WorkSource office did for me from start to finish helping me to get my CDL license."

His dedication paid off. Bollie secured full-time employment as a CDL-A truck driver, where he is gaining valuable experience making long-haul deliveries across the country. Looking ahead, he plans to keep accumulating driving hours and build a lasting career in the trucking industry.
Bollie's journey reflects the impact of the WIOA program in helping job seekers move from underemployment into rewarding, in-demand careers.

Through focused training, determination, and dedicated workforce support, he has steered his way toward a better future. Congratulations Bollie!

Opportunity is built here, and this year’s in Greensboro, NC proved it.

Next stop: Atlantic City!

Career Team is excited to join workforce professionals from across New Jersey at the GSETA 2026 Workforce Development Conference, taking place October 20–22 at Ocean Resorts in Atlantic City, NJ.

We are proud to share that Melanie Moffett, Senior Business Analyst, will be presenting “From Boots to Bytes: Modernizing Workforce Systems” on Thursday, October 22, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in Tank 1. In August 2026, Alfonso was promoted into the role of Program Manager for VC HEAL with our Ventura County Team. He leads a team dedicated to connecting individuals with training, employment opportunities, and resources that help them move forward. His focus is on developing his team, building strong partnerships, and turning program goals into meaningful outcomes for the communities we serve.

Director of Operational Excellence, Kelly Alesi, shares: “Alfonso has done an outstanding job stepping into his new role. He quickly immersed himself in learning the contract requirements and has been proactive in identifying areas for improvement. His thoroughness, efficiency, and attention to detail have made a positive impact on the team and program operations.”

Alfonso’s favorite Career Team Core Value is “We provide an amazing VIP experience.” He shared, “I believe everyone who walks through our doors deserves to feel welcomed, respected, and heard. That experience starts with our team. When we support, coach, and empower one another, we’re better equipped to make a meaningful difference for the people we serve.”

After years in leadership, coaching, and employee development, Alfonso says workforce development has given that experience a new sense of purpose: “There’s something incredibly rewarding about seeing people discover their potential. At the end of the day, it’s all about people.”

After nearly a year as a chopper operator and more than a decade in the agriculture industry, JohnRoy found himself facing a layoff. Recognizing that the physical demands of agricultural work were becoming increasingly difficult, he saw this transition as an opportunity to pursue a new career path offering greater stability, growth, and long-term financial security.

After researching his options, JohnRoy identified the transportation industry as the best fit for his goals. He turned to our Team in Merced County and worked closely with his Career Advisor, Emely Ramos, to map out his next steps. With Emely's guidance, he secured funding for truck driving school and successfully completed his training, bringing him one step closer to his goal of driving over-the-road alongside his wife and cat.

His dedication delivered results. JohnRoy is now employed as an over-the-road truck driver with May Trucking, launching the career he envisioned. Reflecting on the speed of his journey, he shared that from the day he applied to the day he was handed the keys to his brand-new big rig, was just over 90 days!

JohnRoy's story shows how a challenging employment transition can become an opportunity for positive change. Through determination, career guidance, and dedicated workforce support, turned a layoff into a promising new career on the road. Congratulations JohnRoy!

Please join us in welcoming Moneisa Downs to Career Team as Project Director for our North Central Texas project! 🎉

Moneisa brings more than 22 years of workforce development experience across the region. She began her career as Center Manager of the Weatherford Center, where she developed a deep appreciation for the role every team member plays in delivering responsive, high-quality service to VIPs and employers. Since then, she has held a wide range of leadership roles, including

Operations Manager, Program Manager, Trainer, Project Director, and Regional Director.
Outside of work, Moneisa enjoys exploring state parks, kayaking, birdwatching, and searching estate sales for distinctive artwork.
