Town of Shelter Island Wireless Master Plan & Community Survey
The Town of Shelter Island is preparing a Draft Wireless Master Plan to guide future decisions on wireless communications, cellular coverage, and related infrastructure throughout the community.
Reliable wireless service is increasingly important for public safety, healthcare, education, remote work, business activity, and everyday communication. At the same time, the Town recognizes the need to preserve Shelter Island’s scenic, residential, and environmental character. This planning effort aims to evaluate current service conditions, identify areas of need, and explore potential solutions that balance improved connectivity with community priorities.
This initiative also supports the Town’s ongoing Comprehensive Plan process. Through public workshops and community discussions, residents have emphasized the need to plan for adequate public services and infrastructure, including broadband and cellular communications. The Draft Wireless Master Plan is intended to support those broader planning goals by providing technical analysis, identifying coverage gaps, and evaluating potential strategies to improve wireless service in a thoughtful, community-sensitive manner.
Residents, property owners, businesses, and visitors are encouraged to review the Draft Wireless Master Plan and complete the community survey. Public input will help the Town better understand:
- Existing wireless service experiences
- Areas with poor or inconsistent coverage
- Public safety and reliability concerns
- Preferences regarding future wireless infrastructure design and location
- Community priorities related to aesthetics, resiliency, and connectivity
How to Participate:
- Review the Draft Wireless Master Plan
- Complete the online community survey
- Share your comments and feedback
