Flat Creek Mercantile

Flat Creek Mercantile For over 100 years, this historic brick building has been at the heart of the Flat Creek community.

More than a building, it’s a place of stories and connection. We’re excited to restore the Flat Creek Mercantile and bring it back to life.

Not sure if we’re crazy or dedicated but we loaded 600 frozen bricks in -10 wind chill this morning, ready for them to get back to it Monday morning. Thank you everyone for the recommendations on where to find brick.

UPDATE !!!!
WE GOT BRICK!!!!

Thank you everyone for reaching out and supporting us, we truly appreciate it!

MORE BRICK NEEDED!!!!

We were making good progress but have run out of bricks once again. The bricks on this side of the wall were 3 rows deep and had lots broken and crumbled that needed to be replaced not to mention making the roof line all one level. We’re looking to acquire 400/500 more bricks this red color. Please let us know if you you know where we can get some. Thanks!

We’ve had a few people ask about donating to the renovation. There’s absolutely no pressure, but we did set up a GoFundMe so we can be fully transparent with any donations received. Every bit helps speed up the process - restoring a 100+ year-old building definitely isn’t cheap.

We’ve also decided that the bricks on the left and right of the front door will be dedication bricks, engraved with the names of our donors as a small thank-you and lasting tribute.

As you can see in repointing the brick on this side of the building we had them extend the brick to make it all one level.
The extra 400 bricks needed to do this were graciously donated from a historic 1900 brick house tore down 8 years ago on North Main Street in Shelbyville, as you can see they were a perfect match. The bricks were buried in dirt and weeds and just rediscovered the day before they were needed, God is good!
We loaded a dump trailer and sorted and cleaned the discovered bricks.

We created this page to keep everyone updated about the progress of our soon to be restored Flat Creek Mercantile.

As you can see we’ve had a team working the last several weeks to repoint the original brick. We were fortunate enough to source the red brick needed for this side of the building up in Nashville.
