The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 5 ROADSHOW for Shelby County for the week of June 7, 2026

KY 1790 (Hooper Station Road) bridge over I-64 to close for 120 days. As part of the $118 million widening and improvement project in Shelby County, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of upcoming overnight closures on Interstate 64 and the 120-day closure of the KY 1790 (Hooper Station Road) bridge over the interstate.

I-64 East will be closed from 7 p.m. Monday, June 8, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, from mile point 35.1 to mile point 43.6. Motorists should follow the posted detour of taking the off-ramp to KY 53 at Exit 35, to U.S. 60 (Frankfort Road) to KY 395 (Waddy Road) to reconnect with I-64 East.

I-64 West will be closed from 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, through 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, from mile point 43.6 to mile point 35.1. Motorists should follow the posted detour of taking the off-ramp to KY 395 (Waddy Road) at Exit 43, to U.S. 60 (Frankfort Road) to KY 53 to reconnect with I-64 West.

The overnight closures of the interstate are necessary for contract crews to demolish the KY 1790 (Hooper Station Road) bridge over I-64 as part of the bridge replacement work. As construction progresses, additional overnight closures on this stretch of I-64 are expected for contract crews to set bridge beams.
Additionally, beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 8, the KY 1790 (Hooper Station Road) over I-64 (at mile point 3.174) will be closed for 120 days (through Tuesday, October 6, 2026) from mile point 3 to mile point 3.25. Motorists should follow the posted detour of taking KY 53 (Mt Eden Road) to U.S. 60 (Frankfort Road) to KY 714 (H**p Ridge Road) to reconnect with KY 1790 (Hooper Station Road).

All work being performed is part of the $118 million I-64 widening and improvement project in Shelby County, which began in February 2025. The project will increase capacity, upgrade a key interchange, and modernize bridges, ensuring a more efficient and reliable transportation network for motorists.

The three-year project includes widening and pavement upgrades of an 11-mile section of I-64, reconstruction of the KY 53 interchange, rebuilding of three bridges over I-64, and widening of four existing I-64 bridges. These improvements will enhance daily travel while also supporting future growth in the region.
The interstate project is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2027. More details, including project timelines and traffic impacts, will be shared online as work progresses. Motorists are encouraged to sign up for email alerts regarding weekly traffic impacts pertaining to the project.
