Shelby County deserves common decency, respect, and care from their elected leaders. I get it, Shelby County and Shelbyville haven’t had a Democrat elected in quite a few years, but we have been here the whole time. Our candidates just don’t go away when an election doesn’t go our way, we are out there helping and leading the community, albeit not in elected offices.
Our party base is growing. We have tripled our monthly meeting attendance, our social media is getting loads of attention. What we don’t want is people celebrating the failures of Shelbyville. We want people stepping up to get involved in change, and, if they are ready and have the right values, run for office.
Let’s talk about values. Locally and on a state level, Republicans have forked over local control to national politicians like Trump. We saw Hoosiers stand up against redistricting last fall, yet still Braun and Trump flooded the primary with cash and ousted those Republicans that were standing with their fellow Hoosiers to keep Washington out of Indiana. They think the election is over, that they have purchased the State House. Voters can have a choice, but only if we have viable candidates. Every day I get contacts from Republicans that are embarrassed of their president and sick of DC telling Shelby County how to live; they are joining our cause. The answer is clear, stop voting for people that send our local control to people like Braun and Trump.
Shelby County Democrats care about their neighbors—that is what our group is about. Regardless of who is in charge, we still help. For each vacancy we fill, it brings out an additional 1.5% of voters. Imagine that, an election where people are excited to get their neighbors into office, not some people that think that they can just waltz in and benefit themselves in their elected position.
If you care about Shelby County, think that things need to get back to reality, that everything is too damn expensive, and that regular working people deserve respect, shoot us a message. Not sure what your district is? We can look it up.
