We want to remind everyone that Deputies will never call you to request payment for court costs, fines, or warrants. We also do not accept Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency as payment for fines. Fines are to be paid at the Shelby County Circuit Clerk's Office.

⚠️ Do not provide personal or financial information, and do not send money or cryptocurrency.

If you receive a suspicious call claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office, please hang up and contact our office directly using a verified phone number.

Please share this post to help protect your family, friends, and community from these scams.

We would like to thank the Shelbyville Police Department and the Defensive Tactics Instructors from both agencies for continuing our annual training partnership. This training gives our officers and deputies additional tools to safely manage challenging and combative encounters, with an emphasis on communication, de-escalation, and reducing the need for force whenever possible.

UPDATE: I-64 is back open.

🚧🚨 Please use caution at the 38-mile marker westbound on I-64 due to an overturned tractor-trailer.

Motorists are encouraged to use Exit 43, the Waddy exit, as a detour. The driver sustained only minor injuries, and units remain on scene as cleanup continues. The detour is expected to last no longer than two hours.

Today, Patrol deputies had a free moment to stop by Shelby Farms Senior Living, check in, and chat with residents. We always appreciate the warm welcome and the opportunity to connect with members of our community!

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported missing person on August 19. Through information gathered during the investigation, a general area was identified where the subject was believed to possibly be located.

On August 20, local first responder agencies developed a coordinated plan and conducted a strategic search of the area. The subject was located with non-life-threatening injuries.

We would like to thank all of the local first responder agencies for their assistance and cooperation during the search. Your dedication and teamwork are greatly appreciated.

🛑 Reminder: Under the new school bus safety law, drivers on multi-lane and four-lane roads must stop when a school bus has its stop arm deployed. The only exception is for traffic traveling in the opposite direction on a four-lane road separated by a raised physical barrier or an unpaved median.

Please join us in welcoming Deputy Benjamin Bird to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Bird was recently sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff and is currently assigned to Court Security duties at the Judicial Center. Upon successful completion of Basic Training at the Police Academy, he will be assigned to the Patrol Division.

Deputy Bird brings prior law enforcement experience to our agency, and we are pleased to welcome him to our team. We wish him continued success as he begins his career with the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Jonah Cloninger has officially graduated and is now a Patrol Deputy, having completed the Department of Criminal Justice Training Basic Police Academy and the Sheriff’s Office Field Training Program.

Deputy Cloninger served our country as a Specialist in the U.S. Army before joining the Sheriff's Office.
