This Friday, June 19th, the Shelby County Recycle Center and Transfer Station will be closed for Juneteenth. Both will reopen Saturday, June 20th, at 7:30am.

Reminder! Free Tire Event for Shelby County households this Saturday from 7:30a-11:00a. Shelby County Complex, 1316 N Michigan Rd, Shelbyville. Enter the South gate and you will be directed on where to unload your tires. We will accept any amount, any size, and on/off rim. Large loads may be directed to go to the tire processing facility. Come see us at the Farmers Market today! We are offering our free food waste buckets! Collect your food waste, take your bucket to the Recycle Center, and pick up free compost! If you can’t today, food waste buckets are available at the Recycle Center at 1316 N Michigan Rd!

Congratulations to Loper Elementary School! Winners of the 2026 Recycle Bowl! They won in both categories: amount collected per capita and overall amount collected. For their efforts, the school will receive a check in the amount of $2786.40! All other schools received $.60 per pound collected. Total aluminum cans collected by all schools participating: 2299 pounds! Recycling aluminum cans provides significant environmental benefits by saving roughly 95% of the energy needed for new production, avoiding the mining of over 4,500 pounds of bauxite ore, and preventing significant greenhouse gas emissions. Aluminum is infinitely recyclable, meaning these 2,299 pounds can be turned back into new cans within 60 days. Great job to the schools that participated in the 2026 Recycle Bowl! Thank you to Shelbyville Auto Parts for being a great partner in collecting and processing the aluminum cans!
