FREE CE by simply doing dental screenings (or cleanings) for the needy. We also need dentists to volunteer to do extractions also. As well as no dental experience volunteers.
Please help!! We are in desperate need of help for this one day annual event. Saturday March 21 in Shelbyville KY. Morning or afternoon shift or work all day if you can. Please PM me to volunteer or for more information.

😷🦷💉 I am proud to be a Registered Dental Hygienist! I don't think many people realize how much education I have & that I have earned the equivalent degree of a Registered Nurse, who everyone is familiar with & respects.

A fellow RDH (Registered Dental Hygienist) posted this and I'm following suit (with some mods). Not a lot of people realize that hygienists are so well educated in preparation for their career in dentistry. Many people mistakenly think that anyone can walk in a dental office from off the street and train on the job to be a dental hygienist.

DID YOU KNOW THAT THIS IS WHAT I HAD TO DO TO "JUST CLEAN YOUR TEETH"?

Students must complete the grueling Dental Hygiene program with a GPA of 3.4 or better.

Basic requirements:

• CPR Health Care Provider certified
• Proof of immunity and health declaration
• Drug screening
• Background Check Requirements

Prerequisites to be accepted to hygiene programs (2 years total):

• Chemistry 101 (with lab)
• Organic Chemistry I (with lab)
• Biology 101 (with lab)
• Human Anatomy and Physiology I (with lab)
• Human Anatomy and Physiology II (with lab)
• Microbiology (with lab)
• ENG101
• ENG102
• College Algebra
• Statistics
• Speech 101
• Psychology 101
• Psychology 102 (or child psychology in place)
• Sociology 101

During hygiene program (another 2 years):

• Pharmacology
• Oral Pathology
• Emergency Medicine
• Dental Radiography I and II (with lab)
We had 5 radiology classes
• Head and Neck Anatomy
• Pre-Clinical Dental Hygiene (bookwork and lab)
• Nutrition
• Embryology and Histology
• Prevention of Dental Disease
• Dental Hygiene Theory I, II, III, IV (coincides with Dental Hygiene Clinic I, II, III, and IV as lab)
• Dental Materials I and II (with lab)
• Practice Management
• Periodontics I and II
• Community Oral Health I and II
• Ethics and Jurisprudence

Now after graduation..... and before I can "clean your teeth" we also have to take and pass all these state/regional and National Board Exams...

--8 hour State/regional Clinical Exam with a live patient that has to meet certain requirements
--8 hour written National Board exam

I HOPE YOU REMEMBER THE NEXT TIME YOU GET YOUR TEETH CLEANED THAT YOUR DENTAL HYGIENIST IS MORE THAN "JUST A PERSON WHO CLEANS YOUR TEETH". There is a lot more to the job than "cleaning teeth". I'm an educator as well and sometimes I feel like a therapist!

I'm thrilled to be in Washington, D.C. this weekend to help launch an exciting new curriculum that my colleagues and I have developed to introduce students to careers in dentistry. It has been a rewarding experience and a true privilege to contribute to such a meaningful project. Many thanks to ADEA for the opportunity to be part of this important initiative.

We are hosting a blood drive here at the Shelby ATC tomorrow! Please sign up to give!

Izabelle Mack, along with the ATC is hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, April 23, 8 am – 2 pm. Izabelle is a senior at Eminence and a health science student at the ATC. She has organized as her senior Passion Project. She will also be awarded scholarship dollars from the blood center based on the number of units collected.
