📢 Hey Shelby!

A while back, we asked for your feedback through our Village Parks survey, and we're excited to share the results with you. Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate and help shape the future of our parks.

Please note: A more comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan is currently being developed using your feedback. In the meantime, we wanted to share these survey results with the community as soon as possible.

🚧 Important Construction Notice 🚧

Extensive infrastructure and roadway improvements are planned for S. Michigan Avenue between Rankin Street and State Street (see map). Work is expected to begin within the next couple of weeks, with a tentative start date of September 21, though construction could begin earlier or later depending on project scheduling.

The project will include:

• Water main replacement
• Water service line replacements
• Storm drain improvements
• Full road reconstruction

We will share additional updates as they become available.

Attention Friends of Shelby: If you are planning on coming downtown to w**d and cleanup on Michigan Ave and in the parking lot behind downtown by the bike trail, you are still welcome to do so but there will be no official gathering tonight.

📢 Planning Commission Public Hearing Notice

At the upcoming meeting, the Planning Commission will conduct a Public Hearing to receive comments and input regarding the proposed Zoning Ordinance and accompanying Zoning Map.

Residents, property owners, and other interested parties are encouraged to attend and participate in the public hearing process.

🚧👏 Shout out to our DPW crew!

They've been doing an excellent job repainting crosswalks and stop bars across the village. There's still more work to complete, but they've already gotten a lot done and it's looking great.

It's another step towards building a safe, well-maintained, and appealing town!

🌲 Big News for Shelby's Trees!

The Village of Shelby has received a $20,345 MDNR Tree Management Grant to develop a long-term plan for caring for and expanding our community's tree canopy.

Working with The Response Growth Collective, Inc., we will be collecting data on Village trees, evaluating their condition, planning future planting efforts, and developing strategies to keep our urban forest healthy for years to come.

This project will also help the Village pursue an estimated $50,000 in future grant funding for tree planting and removal projects identified through the plan.

Healthy trees mean cleaner air, improved property values, better stormwater management, and a more beautiful community. We're excited to take this important step toward protecting and enhancing Shelby's natural assets. 🌳
