Thank you EAGLE Towing!

This week starts a refresh of our station, including a resurfacing of our apparatus bay floors. This means we won’t be able to station our vehicles in their normal location (at our station) but thankfully we have great community partners like EAGLE Towing. They have generously provided the trucks a place to stay safe (in town) until the floor is complete! So we again say THANK YOU!!

THEY ARE NO JOKE!

While today has been full of images from last night's fire and the occasional April fools joke on our page. There is a set of individuals we want to make sure we recognize. They don't drive extra high speeds or use bright flashing lights to get to scenes. But they always show up and they make sure we have what we need to continue to do our jobs efficiently. They are the Oceana County Fire Fighters Training - Oceana County Rehab Team. No not rehab for addiction or substance abuse, but rather rehab for our depleted hydration and growing hunger while on scene. Time of day, weather nor day of the year matters, they will be there, just as they were last night.

Rehab on a fire scene is a critical, structured process designed to prevent firefighter injury and death by managing physical exhaustion, dehydration, and heat/cold stress. It provides immediate medical monitoring, nutritional support, and, crucially, a cooling or warming environment (depending on the weather) to allow personnel to recover and safely resume duties.

So with that, WE say thank you!!!!!

🚨 PUBLIC NOTICE – NEW RESPONSE POLICY STARTING TODAY 🚨

Due to rising call volume and an increase in “non-emergency emergencies”, Shelby-Benona Fire Department will be implementing a new program effective immediately:

🔥 “Firefighter Ride-Along Response Tier System” 🔥

Here’s how it works:

• Tier 1 (Basic): Lights & sirens response 🚒
• Tier 2 (Premium): Includes firefighter commentary during response (“Yep… that’s definitely burnt toast.”)
• Tier 3 (Elite): Patient gets to sit in the officer seat and run the siren (conditions apply)
• Tier 4 (Ultimate): Includes post-incident photo with crew + commemorative helmet sticker

💳 Payment options will be accepted via cash, card, or venmo (we are not above it).

This program is expected to improve community engagement and help us determine who really needs us at 2:30am for a chirping smoke detector.

Last night at approximately 11:15 pm, we along with Grant Township Fire and Rescue, Ferry Township Fire Department and Life EMS Ambulance were dispatched to a reported structure fire on south Oceana Dr. Upon arrival command found a single story residence with heavy fire coming out the back. Incoming crews conducted fire attack and overhaul. Thank you to the assisting agencies as well as Mason-Oceana 911 and Oceana County Sheriff's Office.

This fire is currently under investigation. Please do not cross the yellow caution tape or attempt to come onto the property. Thank you.

Early Monday morning our department was dispatched to assist Hart Area Fire Department fire with a working structure fire that developed into two residential fires. Crews assisted with fire attack, water supply and overhaul. Great work by all involved.

THIRD SPRING IS HERE! and with that we know everyone is eager to get outside and clan up from the winter. But yesterday afternoon our department with an assist from Hart Area Fire Department responded to a out of control brush fire. While the incident was resolved with minimal spread and damage this is not always the case. So, this is the season reminder to PLEASE check the Michigan Department of Natural Resources website and their open burning information page for resources and the okay to burn.
