Officers of the Animal Control program enforce local ordinances and state laws in order to prevent and control rabies. Animal Control Officers:
- investigate all animal bites
- investigate all reports of injured animals
- investigate all reports of cruelty to animals
- investigate all complaints related to animals which are a nuisance and/or dangerous.

Come enjoy a beautiful summer evening, cool off in the creek, and spend time with some wonderful adoptable puppies and dogs looking for their forever homes. ❤️

🍔 Two food trucks will be on site serving great food!
🍦 An ice cream truck will be there to help you beat the summer heat!
🐶 Meet adoptable puppies and dogs from Cleveland County Animal Services.

While you’re there, stop by our booth to learn more about the services Cleveland County Animal Services provides to our community and get information about our upcoming Rabies Vaccination Clinic at Burns High School.

You’ll also have the opportunity to connect with county staff and learn about the many services available to residents that help make Cleveland County a great place to live, work, and play.

🐾 Cleveland County Animal Services – May 2026 By the Numbers 🐾

May was another busy month for our staff and officers as we worked to serve both the animals and residents of Cleveland County.

📊 May Highlights
🐶🐱 288 animals entered our shelter
🏠 169 owner surrenders
🐾 115 stray animals taken into care
❤️ 68 adoptions completed
🤝 40 animals transferred to rescue partners
🏡 21 pets reunited with their owners
✂️ 93 spay/neuter surgeries performed, including 42 TNR surgeries

🚔 Our Animal Control Officers responded to 570 calls for service, including:
• 77 bite investigations
• 45 cruelty investigations
• 112 stray animal complaints
• 143 animal transports
• 24 wildlife calls

While our overall Live Release Rate was impacted by an unusually high intake of feral dogs and medically compromised cats, our team continued to work tirelessly to find positive outcomes whenever possible through adoption, rescue partnerships, return-to-owner efforts, spay/neuter programs, and responsible population management.

We are grateful for our staff, volunteers, rescue partners, fosters, and community members who support animal welfare every day. Together, we continue to make a difference for the animals of Cleveland County. ❤️🐾

We have TWO adorable female Chihuahua puppies looking for their foster-to-adopt homes! These sweet little girls are 7 weeks old and ready to steal your heart. 🐾

Our foster-to-adopt program is completely FREE! Here’s how it works:
✨ You foster the puppies while they finish growing
✨ Bring them to the shelter every 2 weeks for booster vaccines and care
✨ Once they are old enough to be spayed, we’ll schedule their surgery
✨ After surgery, the adoption becomes official!

🚨 Foster or Rescue Needed for Zella 🚨

Zella is looking for an experienced foster home or rescue group willing to give her a chance. She is fearful in the kennel environment and can bark or act scared when being taken out, but once she’s out, she becomes a completely different dog — sweet, loving, and eager for affection. ❤️

She appears to be house trained, does well with kids, and is VERY food motivated, which will help tremendously with building trust and training. Zella just needs someone patient and experienced who can help her feel safe and secure.
