Daily Update: Chip Sealing in Shelby Twp on Buchanan Rd, on 72nd Ave between Baseline and Industrial Dr. Also chip sealing on W Baker west of Oceana Dr, on E Baker east of Oceana Dr to 88th. More chip sealing on 80th Ave north of Baker Rd to the Shelby Village limits. Also chip sealing 88th Ave north of Grant Rd to Shelby Rd. Crews are mowing in Pentwater Twp, on the expressway. Mowing will start in Otto Twp today. We are paving on Oceana Dr south of Rothbury to Roosevelt. We are paving on Cleveland Rd between 90th and 100th. We are paving on Webster Rd west of Oceana Dr to just west of 88th Ave. We have a small crew working to fix washouts in Crystal Valley and Colfax Twp. Daily Update: We have a crew chip sealing in Shelby Township on Buchanan Rd east of 88th Ave and east of Oceana Dr. We are also chip sealing on Water Rd north of Shelby. We have crews mowing on M-20 and also in Elbridge Twp , Hart Twp, and the expressway.

ROAD BRINING 101:
The gravel on roads is made up of a mixture of fine particles including clay, silt, sand, and coarse particles such as stone. When we brine gravel roads, we are using calcium chloride, which is hygroscopic. That means it naturally draws moisture to it and holds all of these particles together. Normally we like to let roads sit for several weeks or more after grading and brining them. When we have excessive rainfall, that creates potholes and washouts. For safety concerns and to maintain the integrity of the road, we will regrade the roads to fix these defects. Because the roads have been treated with calcium chloride, they can be maintained with conventional road techniques by either grader blading or truck blading after a rainfall. We are sharing this information with our motoring public so that you have a better understanding of why we have put other operations on hold to fix and maintain these gravel roads. We want to ensure our motorists will have good roads to drive on for the long holiday weekend.

Daily Update: Crews are patching gravel roads in Benona Twp and on 200th Ave in Newfield Twp. We are also doing some road grading in Newfield. We have a crew mowing on US-31, M-20, in Newfield Twp and Crystal Twp. We are blacktop patching in Greenwood Twp, Otto Twp, Newfield Twp, Benona Twp, Elbridge Twp, and Hart Twp.

Daily Update: Crews are blading in Benona, Claybanks, Weare, Crystal, Hart, Elbridge, Newfield, and Ferry Townships. We have patch crews in Claybanks, Newfield, Elbridge, and Hart Townships. We are mowing US-31, M20, Newfield, Colfax, and Crystal Townships.

Daily Update: We are finishing shoulders on Garfield Rd and will be mostly done today. Crews are mowing in Ferry Twp, Newfield Twp, and Colfax Twp. We are also mowing on M-120, M-20, and US-31. We have trucks out blading and checking for washouts. We have a patch crew on Cleveland Rd in Greenwood Twp. Please call with service requests.

06/28/2021

Daily Update: Crews are putting shoulder gravel on the Garfield Rd Project in Newfield Twp and Greenwood Twp. A crew is doing hot box patching in Grant Twp. We are mowing on Maple Island and M-20. Crews are also mowing on US-31. We are also mowing areas in both Crystal Twp and Colfax Twp. Crews are checking various roads for washouts. If you have a washout, please CALL the Office directly so we can initiate a service request!

We are happy to report that all township brining has been completed for round one. Golden Twp, Hart Twp, and Leavitt Twp all opted to use Great Lakes Chloride for one brining, so these townships have been completed for the year. Thank you for your patience during road work season!

Daily Update: We have a berm crew on Jackson Rd east of Oceana Dr. A paving crew will be working on 176th north of Madison in Colfax Twp. Another crew is doing wedging towards Ruby Creek in Colfax Twp. We are grading in Claybanks Twp in preparation to brining next week. Patch crews will be working in Grant Twp. We will be mowing on Oceana Dr as well as south M-120.

Heads up for next week: We are hoping to begin pulverizing 200th Ave south of Pierce Rd to Baker Rd.

Daily Update: Crews continue chip sealing in Golden Township (see below) on Deer Rd between 34th Ave & 56th Ave. We are chip sealing 56th Ave between Polk Rd & Deer Rd. Crews are also chip sealing on Fox Rd between 34th & 40th, all in Golden Township. We will continue brining in Ferry Township. Deliveries of brine from our vendor has been slow, but we are hoping to start in Claybanks Township by early next week. Today crews are mowing in Benona and ending in Claybanks Townships. We are also mowing on M-20. We have a crew hot box patching on Jefferson Rd by Ruby Creek.

Daily Update: Crews are doing lots of chip sealing in the Silver Lake area in Golden Township:
- Roundabout to 18th Ave
- 34th Ave to Deer Rd
We are continuing with brining in Ferry Township after running out of brine yesterday. Once we finish brining in Ferry Township we will begin in Claybanks Township after that. Crews are mowing in Benona Township and Shelby Township as well as on Oceana Dr north of Hart.

Daily Update: Today crews are starting the chip seal program on Railroad Ave north of Deer Rd in Golden Twp! We are blading and brining in Ferry Twp. Crews are mowing on Oceana Dr north of Hart. Another crew is mowing in Shelby Twp and Benona Twp. We have patch crews in Silver Lake and also Ruby Creek from Jefferson to the bridge today.
