💧 Water Wednesday: Why Did My Water Pressure Change?

Have you noticed a temporary change in your water pressure? It doesn’t always mean there’s a problem inside your home.

Water pressure may fluctuate for several reasons:

🔧 Routine maintenance or waterline repairs
Crews may temporarily adjust water flow while completing maintenance, repairing a leak or connecting a new waterline.

🚿 Periods of high water demand
During hot weather—especially in the mornings and evenings—more customers may be watering lawns, washing vehicles, doing laundry or using water at the same time.

🚒 Fire hydrant use or waterline flushing
Hydrant use and routine flushing can temporarily affect pressure in nearby areas.

In most cases, water pressure returns to normal once the work is completed or demand decreases. If low pressure continues for an extended period, check with your neighbors to determine whether they are experiencing the same issue, then contact Cleveland County Water.

A temporary change doesn’t always mean something is wrong—but we’re here to help when you have questions! 💙

💧 Why Do I Have Air in My Water Lines After Maintenance?

If you've ever turned on your faucet after a water outage or scheduled maintenance and noticed sputtering, popping, or bursts of air, don't worry—that's completely normal!

Here's why:

When a water line is shut off for repairs or maintenance, air enters the pipes. Once water service is restored, that trapped air travels through the system until it reaches your home's faucets.

The easy fix?
🚰 Turn on your cold water and let it run for a few minutes. The air will work its way out of the plumbing, and your water should return to normal.

You may also notice:
💦 Water that sputters for a few seconds
💦 Tiny air bubbles that make the water look cloudy (they'll disappear as they rise)
💦 Slightly lower water pressure until the system is fully stabilized

Our crews also flush the water lines after maintenance to help ensure the system returns to normal as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your patience as we continue maintaining and improving your water system!

💧 FRIDAY DROUGHT UPDATE 🌦️

This week's U.S. Drought Monitor shows that conditions are continuing to improve across parts of North Carolina thanks to recent rainfall. While that's certainly encouraging, much of the state—including Cleveland County—remains in Moderate Drought (D1).

One rainy day—or even one rainy week—doesn't erase months of below-normal rainfall. Our lakes, streams, and groundwater still need time and additional steady rainfall to recover.

Here's how you can continue to help:
💧 Water lawns only when truly needed.
💧 Repair leaking faucets and irrigation systems.
💧 Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
💧 Stay mindful of your daily water use.

Every gallon conserved today helps protect our water supply for tomorrow.

Thank you for continuing to do your part! Together, we can help ensure a reliable water supply for our entire community.

💧 TIP TUESDAY 💧

A small leak can become a big problem before you ever notice it.

🚽 Here's a simple leak test you can do today:

Add a few drops of food coloring to your toilet tank.
Wait about 15 minutes without flushing.
If color appears in the bowl, you likely have a leaking flapper that needs to be replaced.

A leaking toilet can waste hundreds of gallons of water over time—driving up your water bill and putting additional demand on our water supply. Finding and fixing leaks is one of the easiest ways to conserve water at home.

Every drop counts. Together, we can help protect our community's water resources. 💙
