National Night Out: A Night to Remember! 🌭🚓

What a fantastic turnout for this year's National Night Out in Shelby! When weather concerns called for a move indoors, families and kids still showed up in full force to spend the evening with the people who serve and support our community — and we couldn't be more grateful.

A huge thank you to all our departments and community partners who came out and participated. Seeing so many kids and families out enjoying the evening together is exactly what this event is about! 💙

As the sun sets this evening, we are removing the mourning band from our agency logo, badges, and uniforms.

This tradition marks the conclusion of the formal period of mourning after a fallen member has been laid to rest.

The mourning band may be removed, but Ashley Moore will not be forgotten. Her service, sacrifice, and lasting impact on Cleveland County EMS will remain with us always.

🚑 Community Update: Mutual Aid EMS Support in Cleveland County

You may notice various EMS vehicles from other counties operating in Cleveland County today and later this evening. This is intentional and planned — these crews are here to provide coverage and ensure emergency services continue running smoothly as our Cleveland County EMS family deals with the recent tragedy.

The North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS) helped coordinate this effort in less than 24 hours. The Ambulance Strike Team is comprised of our regional partners, and we thank them for their continued support and assistance.

These partner agencies meet the same high standards of training, certification, and care as our own Cleveland County EMS teams. Rest assured, if you call 911, you will receive the same fast, professional response you always have.

This is the result of a highly coordinated mutual aid effort between Cleveland County EMS, NCOEMS, and our regional partners, working together to make sure our community stays covered no matter what.

We continue to mourn the loss of Paramedic Field Training Officer Ashley Moore.

Ashley’s obituary and service information are now available. Tonight, family, friends, coworkers, and loved ones will gather to honor her life, service, and memory.

Ashley will forever remain part of our Cleveland County EMS family.

Many have asked about others who were in the ambulance during today’s incident.

Out of respect for all involved, we are limiting the details shared. However, we can say that the paramedic who was driving at the time was evaluated for injuries and has since been discharged home. The patient that was being transported is also expected to be okay with regard to any injuries related to the incident.

We appreciate the continued prayers and support for Ashley’s family, our EMS family, and all those affected.

Cleveland County Mourns the Loss of Paramedic/Field Training Officer Ashley Moore

Shelby, North Carolina — It is with sincere regret and heavy hearts that Cleveland County announces the Line of Duty death of Ms. Ashley Moore, Paramedic/Field Training Officer who was killed in the Line of Duty as the result of a traffic collision in Gaston County, North Carolina on Monday, July 6th, 2026.

Ms. Ashley Moore, Paramedic/Field Training Officer served with Cleveland County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for nine (9) years. She exemplified the highest standards of the EMS profession and dedication to our community.

“Our entire Cleveland County team is grieving the loss of one of our own," said Thomas McNeilly, Emergency Medical Services Director.

"Our immediate priority is supporting Ashley’s family and our first responders during this tragedy. We ask the public to keep their families and our EMS staff in their prayers," stated David B. Cotton, County Manager.

Out of respect for the family’s privacy, no further information or details will be released at this time. An official update regarding memorial services will be provided in the coming days.
