"What's Going On" for the third week of April? Let's find out! The Shelby Township Senior Center is helping senior with mobility with their Senior Tai Chi Class. Celebrate Earth Day at the Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center at our Earth Day celebration this weekend, and you can also come a clean up the Clinton River for the Clinton Clean-up. And head over to the Shelby Township Library where you can read with a therapy dog with their Paws to Read program.

Township offices will be closed today, April, 3rd for Good Friday. Township offices, including the Shelby Township Parks & Recreation will resume normal business hours at 8:30AM on Monday, April 6th.

The Shelby Township Library will be closed April 3rd-5th, and will resume normal business hours at 9AM on Monday, April 6th.

The Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center will be open to the public Saturday, April 4th, will be closed on Friday, April 3rd and Sunday, 5th.

The Shelby Township Activities Center is will be closed April 3rd-5th, and will resume normal business hours at 8:30AM on Monday, April 6th.

Non-emergency services will be available at 586-731-2121. Call 911 for emergencies.
There will be no delay to waste services due to Good Friday or Easter!

This is "What's Going On" for the second week of April in Shelby Township. The Shelby Township Library looks back to World War 1 with the Dress Rehearsal for the Arsenal of Democracy. The Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center helps you take of your lawn the eco-friendly way. You can also make your own greeting cards at the Shelby Township Senior Center.

The Macomb County Department of Roads, in partnership with Shelby Township, Macomb Township Offices, Washington Township, and Ray Township, is planning to reconstruct and modernize the intersection of 26 Mile Road and Hayes Road.

A community open house will be held on April 29 from 4-6 p.m. at Macomb Township Hall to present the proposed plans and provide project details.

The project aims to enhance safety by improving turning movements, upgrading pavement conditions, reducing congestion, and boosting travel time reliability for drivers and businesses relying on this busy intersection. Construction is expected to begin this summer and continue through the fall, with work on mast arm and traffic signal installation, as well as final restoration, planned for early 2027.

Priority Waste update:

Yard waste collection resumes Monday, March 30.

Yard waste consists of leaves, lawn cuttings, shrubs and tree trimmings. Priority Waste residential customers should place yard waste into the designated brown containers, paper biodegradable bags or labeled containers up to 35 gallons in size. Priority Waste enforces a yard waste weight limit of 50 pounds. Brush and limbs less than 2 inches in diameter must be in bundles no longer than 4 feet and not exceeding a total of 18 inches in diameter or more than 50 pounds. Dirt, sod, large stumps, sand, gravel, mulch, concrete, rocks, animal f***s and dead animals are not considered yard waste.

Yard waste containing plastic containers, potters, mulch bags or other plastic is considered contaminated and will not be collected. Please remove all plastic bags, ties and piece from yard waste before placing on the curb.

The eastbound right lane of 23 Mile Road between Schoenherr Road and Romeo Plank Road in Shelby Township and Macomb Township is anticipated to be closed through March 24 through March 27 for utility work. The lane closure is associated with a permit project.

Keeping our water clean starts at home.

Stormwater runoff carries pollutants directly into streams, lakes and Lake St. Clair. You can help by avoiding over application of fertilizers and pesticides, sweeping yard debris instead of hosing it into the street, fixing vehicle leaks and reporting dumping or unusual discharges.
